Good enough for the price, October 25, 2008
This review is from: Berndes 9 Piece SignoCast Cast Aluminum Cookware Set (Kitchen)
I got this in a Gold Box deal. Not bad overall for the price. I've been using them for a few months now, and the non-stick coating still looks good. Not perfect, but still good--a few scratches here and there, and an overall dulling of the new shine of the non-stick coating. The aluminum, however, has discolored, which is pretty normal.
They cook fairly evenly, but without the density and heft of something like cast iron, they don't retain heat in quite the same way.
Consumer Reports rated this line #5, with the [...] brand being both the best non-stick set and a best buy (more pieces for the same price). The lowest score was for the durability of the non-stick coating (which I can attest to); the highest score was for the ease of cleaning, which to me doesn't make much of a difference.
Finally, the handles come loose pretty easily. Just need to tighten them up with a screwdriver, but still, I wish they were a bit more solid.
I don't normally rate something five stars unless I really, really love the product and would buy it again. I think I'll be likely to try another line of cookware for my next purchase, to be honest.
Oh, in general, watch out for shill reviews. Things to look out for--people with only one review, reviews that say nothing negative, reviews that give five stars, and reviews that all occur around the same time.

Quality cookware, December 8, 2008
This review is from: Berndes 9 Piece SignoCast Cast Aluminum Cookware Set (Kitchen)
Excellent Quality, even heating, cookware. The non-stick coating is on the inside and outside of the pans which makes clean-up much easier. The only negative is that 2 of the pots have small half loop handles which get hot when cooking. The manufacturer include a pair of task specific pot holders to pick up the pans. I don't mind the lack of a full size handle for storage reasons but my wife seems to forget and has burned her hands picking up the pots.

Survived the first year in a guy's college dorm room, July 14, 2009
This review is from: Berndes 9 Piece SignoCast Cast Aluminum Cookware Set (Kitchen)
let's face it, men aren't exactly the best when it comes to taking care of their pots and pans. with a dorm room of 4 guys (1 of whom had never cooked a day in his life), I had low expectations that these pans would see the year out. With that said, I am pleased to say that these pans withstood the ultimate test! The Teflon coating never scratched off, and they still work great. The stove top that our college provides is not the best in the world, yet we were still able to cook to the best of our ability, as these pans allowed for more controlled cooking, with their thick aluminum core (both on the bottom and the walls). No hot-spots either!!! we were dragging our feet with the thin pans that our parents got us (cheap/throw away college pans), which literally got thrown away after we upgraded to these!
