5.0 out of 5 stars Great performances, but don't mistake them for the stereo remake, September 10, 2005
This review is from: Bernstein: Symphony No. 2- Age of Anxiety / Serenade After Plato's Symposium (1950 recording) (Audio CD)
If you read the amazon reviewer, you discover that these superb recordings of two major Bernstein works, his Sym. #2 "Age of Anxiety" and the Serenade for Violin based on Plato's Symposium, are in mono from 1950. I doubt that many listeners will jump at the chance to buy them at their exorbitant price at amazon Marketplace. Happily, there are terrific remakes under the composer in stereo, also on Sony. As mono recordings go, these are vivid and spacious, but unless you are a completist, the benefits of stereo are worth having.
