Customer Reviews

This torch did the job well.

This does not have a trigger start it requires an out side ignition flame like a match or lighter.

This piece of junk never gets hot enough to melt solder.

I solder all of the time with this little device! Who ever said it doesn't get hot enough to solder clearly does not know how to operate the device.

After you screw on the solder tip piece you pull up on the piece you screw down. This lifts up the spring and exposes a hole. Holding this up, turn on the butane flow and light it. Still holding it up turn the flame to max. After 2-4 seconds you will notice an orange glow (the ceramic element shaped like a grid) After it is glowing let go of the black piece to slide down. Now turn the fuel down to between 2 and 3. Wait like 1 minute then solder away.

It may not do large items well, but neither does a low voltage soldering iron. But for electronics, leads, breadboards and the like this thing is awesome!

I absolutely love this torch for small jewelry and electronics projects! It has three metal tips, One pinpoin, that is good for delicate electronics solder work, one flat solder tip that works wonderfully for soldering wires together, a flameless heat attatchment (All of the metal tips screw onto this attatchment), and a strait flame tip that works fantasically for small jewelry wire. I have yet to try it on metal sheet, but I'm sure it would do just as well. The torch itself is very sturdy, everything is designed very well, the torch will stay lit and running (even with the flame adjusted to be rather large) for more than an hour. It does have a bit of a problem with staying lit when it's running out of butane, but it's pretty easy to fill, even with crappy butane. The whole thing comes in a very nice carrying case. the only problem with the case is that it is very thin plastic, and I had to fill it to make it a bit sturdier.

Pros:
Good, Sturdy design
Hot Flame
Adjustable Flame
Good Quality Tips
easy to fill

Cons:
Goes out easily when near empty
plastic insert is rather flimsy

I bought this particular model at a home improvment store. I was very excited to try it out and found it worked better than any high amp electrical model I have used. The torch melts aluminu as well as shatters glass. I use it to wire batterys and it heats up in about 30 seconds and melts the solder immediately on contact, saving me alot of time.

You may be wondering why I gave it a 3 out of 5 at this point. As I used it more and more (which was everyday) for about a month. I noticed its flame slowly die down more and more, rendering the 1,2, and 3 settings inadequate to heat anything, however when I first bought it setting 4 was over kill in all my applications. I ending up having it on High all the time untill that was almost not hot enough to melt my solder in an effecient manner. Well instead of simply taking it apart and adjusting the flow valve I decided to unscrew just about every part I could find and put it back together and it shot a flame out about 2 feet.

Needless it worked so well when it was functiong that I am going to buy another one and just hope it doesn't die like this one did.

I bought this mini-torch with the intent of using it to do basic copper pipe and electrical soldering, but I've given up on it. First of all, filling the torch with butane is problematic and messy; about half the fuel makes it into the unit and the other half everywhere else. Then when it does stay lit for any appreciable length of time (which isn't regularly), it self-extinguishes when held at certain angles. I worked and worked with it and tried every conceivable thing to make it operate better, short of taking it apart, but to no avail. I've gone going back to my old soldering iron, and propane-canister torch, which have worked well for 40 years.

I need a micro torch to heat and bend some titanium and I picked this. It will do the job, but too much gas is spilled when fueling this torch. Yes, I am using the same brand fuel with the right tip. I have something to compare to. I also have a Weller key chain micro torch and it absolutely doesn't have this problem. Not great. This one also requires to use a separate lighter or a match to lit it - sometimes while pulling the attachment forward to reveal the oval hole. Really? Could be a bit simpler.

I bought one of these at a big box home improvement store. It worked awesome the first 3 times. I was initially thrilled with it. But, ever since, the performance has gone down hill. Now IF I can even get it to light, it doesn't produce enough flame to properly heat the tips. Even using as an open torch, it will only burn weakly and then go out after about 2 seconds. Most times it will pop and sputter but not light and produce a good flame. When new it would produce a nice strong flame and there was an audible hiss. Now when I switch it on, it will produce that original strong hiss for only a split second and then fade away as if a seal inside was swelling and choking off the gas flow. I have since been reading many reviews on different sites and have learned my complaint is shared by many others. BTW, I am using the BernzOmatic brand butane as well. I have sent a complaint to BernzOmatic and am currently awaiting a reply. I now wish I would have spent a little more and bought the Master Appliance torch that is made in the USA. As the saying goes, "you only get what you pay for". I would NOT recommend this product.
