I searched the whole internet for a swirl flame Mapp gas torch head. The trigger type are expensive, some of them 60+ dollars more than this unit. Bernzomatic (The manufacturer) lists this item as one of it's fastest torches along with all of their other higher dollar models. Handles break and triggers fail and some of the trigger-type models are not even adjustable. This is a fully adjustable torch head, the price was as low as I could find anywhere on the internet after days of searching. It's solid brass with only one plastic part and that is made of really hard black tool-plastic. I was glad to see it in my mailbox when it got here and I took it for a test...

It melted three .223 shells to liquid in about a minute. It unsoldered a 2 inch plumbing fixture in about twelve seconds. And it burned through 1/4 inch heavy grade copper pipe in 35 seconds. I don't think this thing will break either. It's a twenty year tool I'd estimate.

I'm not a five star review kind of person. I have had a couple. The seller was a little slow to ship this item to me but the product exceeds my expecatiations. Normally you get what you pay for. I got more. Buy it if you need a little or a lot of heat put some mapp on it and it will as good of a job as any handheld bottle-type torch there is and for much less money.

I couldn't get enough heat from my old Bernzomatic - and it was very old, so I bought this. It works very well. The contol is easy to use and it easily solders 3/4 inch copper tubing. I'm glad I made this purchase.

way hotter flame then a regular pencil torch, a wider range of control since this allows you to have a much larger flame if you want to, a simple design means less things that can go wrong, i would prefer that the whole thing was made out of brass but i don't think it is going to be a problem. My favorite part about this is that the whole structure to making a torch like it is plain to see, say if i wanted to make a larger one like it, or had things laying around to make my own.

When ordering i was a little concerned. I have gone through a few different styles of torches and nothing was working the way i wanted. I was setting up a backyard forge for metal work and metal casting. The torch came extremely fast and solved all my problems. It can connect to any propane bottle, the 4oz ones you get at a hardware store and the 16oz camping stove bottles. The way the swirl flame works is just awesome. It is the hottest burning torch i have ever used. It heats up a larger area. The only down side is it will go through propane pretty fast. When black smithing i would use up a 16 oz bottle of propane in about 3 hours. So i bought a coleman extension hose and now i can connect this torch head to a 15 or 20 gallon tank used for grilling.

EXCELLENT TORCH!!

This is a really great buy. I searched and searched for a new torch head, and arrived at this discontinued model.

Frankly, I really dislike the self-lighting models that have a built-in ignition. I like my tools durable, functional, and simple. So, for me - I the ignition mechanism in most available torches is just one more thing to break. I've read plenty of complaints about it on the models that have it. if it breaks, there is no fixing it.

This is solid brass. Approximately 6" in length (bigger than I was expecting). The only piece of plastic on this is adjustment for the flame. Plus, the amount of gas is fully adjustable.

Currently, I'm using propane in my tank, even though this says "mapp" on the box. It is compatible with either type. Even with propane, this puts out a really powerful flame. I gave it a quick test, and it doesn't take long to sweat a few pipes with this bad boy.

The current top of the line for bernzomatic is the TS8000 - I'd take this any day over the current "top of the line." In my opinion, this torch head is worth twice what I paid.

UPDATE: I've re-plumbed all potable water in my house using this torch head (plumbing was in bad shape and needed to be completely redone). For 3/4", this sweats copper and large stuff like ball valves without any issue when using propane, it puts out a great flame. I switched to MAPP gas for 1" pipe and valves and such. So, this has gotten plenty of use. This is a great buy if you can get your hands on it!

Nice torch for the money, swirl flame burns hot enough to bend light metal (to 1/4" or so thick)and most soldering jobs. Haven't used it with Mapp gas yet. Great price from Amazon, fast delivery to my door.

This torch works extremely well for soldering pipes and metal plates. It has a large flame vortex rather than a pencil tip. This makes it great for large areas that need to be connected. I found that pencil tip torches tend to overheat a small area while not providing sufficient heat further from the focal point. In some cases (when precision is required) a pencil tip might be better but if you want to heat a wider area, the "swirl" is the way to go.

i wanted a hotter torch, this one is sturdy and provides a hotter flame to solder more quickly and have less issues with a hot flame. If you have some water in pipe or a heavy brass fitting it heats it so quickly it won't ruin the o rings or cause problems a slower torch would as it gets everything hot heating slowly. this heats the part you are soldering and your done-and it cools before damage. better for amateurs like me-though i noted a plumber i'd hired for some thigns that i had put on another faucet to replace a broken one use one too-it was too tight for me adn didn't want to mess with it. so if it's good enough for a pro, it's good enough for me.
