5.0 out of 5 stars Nice torch for small / fine projects, good value
Was looking for a torch with a focused, fine flame for soldering PL259 connectors (largish antenna connectors) onto coax and this torch is perfect. The torch is self igniting, will stand on it's own and the flame can be locked on so your hands are free to manipulate the work and the solder.

3.0 out of 5 stars Generally good but igniter broke.
Whether you are using this torch in you workship or in the kitchen to make creme broulet the torch can be set to do the job. It also includes a soldering attachment to use as a pointed soldering iron when needed. My problem with the torch is the the piezo igniter stopped working after about 6-8 ignitions. 5.0 out of 5 stars Works right, every time, March 28, 2010
This review is from: Bernzomatic Micro Flame Butane Torch & Soldering Kit (ST2200T) (Misc.)
I have had good luck with Bernz-o-matic pencil torches, but I wanted a self igniting unit for lighting cigars. This model is the perfect size, and it lights on the first push of the button every time. It is a great lighter for cigars!

It comes with a removeable soldering tip attachment, which also has a 'hot blower' function for heat shrink tubing. It has a feature for 'always on' so you can work hands free. The base is very sturdy and stable. Be sure to get some quality butane fuel when you purchase this.

UPDATE 18 MONTHS LATER: It still works perfectly!

It also includes a soldering attachment to use as a pointed soldering iron when needed. My problem with the torch is the the piezo igniter stopped working after about 6-8 ignitions. I have not yet investigated why, but it may have been damaged by the heat of the torch. In the meantime, I have used a Bic lighter to start it. After that it is not problem. I will probably send it back but I threw out the packageing so it may be a problem. I think this is a good torch for the money even if the igniter does not fuction but I only rate it 3 strars because of the malfunction that happen so soon after the torch was purchased. Hopefully others will not have the experience I have had.

4.0 out of 5 stars Price Explanation, October 17, 2008
First off, I'd like to point out that the price is for 6 of the torches, not one. I was equally stunned when I saw the price until I saw the (PACK OF 6) tag.

I have the predecessor to this torch and it's been extremely handy. It puts out more than enough heat to do small metalworking (silver, copper, bronze) as well as soldering and heatshrinking with the attachment. It appears that they've modified the safety trigger (the previous one was extremely cumbersome).

The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is that the butane filler has started to leak and I can't seem to find a replacement part from Bernzomatic. In fact, the Bernzomatic site has been turned into an advertising/promotional site rather than the useful customer oriented site it once was. I will say that, while the new site is relatively useless, it sure as heck is purty.

I'm likely to buy this version if I continue to come up short on the replacement part. My only concern is that Bernzomatic is heading down a path of increased flashiness at the expense of customer support.

2.0 out of 5 stars Second unit craps out? Don't buy it., January 3, 2010
We've been through two of these micro torches, and both have failed! The only thing more disappointing about their premature failure (8 months each of light jewelry usage) is the idiotic web site, which used to be pretty good.

I can't believe there's no support section! There's no troubleshooting guide, no FAQ, no manuals, no forums or other usage data of any kind! Perhaps someone told them that plumbers don't use websites? Then why all the fancy flash and catalog work, but the outright removal of important data?

Maybe they can say why, but my take is that they stupidly think they own this market and don't have to do any support work. Bad move.

Although intended for soldering and small welding jobs, this handy torch works great as a cigar lighter or a creme brulee browner.

I bought this butane torch specifically for caramelizing sugar on Creme Brulee. And wow did it work well. It is safe and easy to use with a small butane canister that inserts into the bottom.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware, December 23, 2011
This review is from: Bernzomatic Micro Flame Butane Torch & Soldering Kit (ST2200T) (Misc.)
I have bought several of these torches to solder electric wires with. I was happy with the product's performance of the task, but became extremely dissatisfied with the company when I learned they will not sell replacement soldering tips. Soldering tips are a consumable item, not a lifetime item. They are not available in any quantity, not directly from bernzomatic, or not from any aftermarket supplier. If you plan on using your torch for soldering, buy a competitor's product.

This is the model recommended by cooksillustrated, but the price doesn't match what they say retail is.
You can find this exact item / model for Under $30 elsewhere. Not sure why the bloated price tag.
