This heater is very ineffective. You really have to be practically hugging the thing to feel any warmth at all. I guess I am going to see about returning it, though, it is such a behemoth, I suppose that will be a problem. Would strongly advise against this item. Sure, it LOOKS like it should work, but it just doesn't.

I bought one of these ... and got rid of it at a loss. While the literature would have you believe that it is more effective at generating heat out from the center core than the traditional patio heaters that reflect heat from the "dome" over the top, the fact of the matter is ... more heat is lost through the top of this thing than comes out the sides. If it had a dome to direct some of that lost heat down, it might be better ... but as is, it is totally worthless! Save your money and go with the traditional patio heaters ... with the dome. You'll be more comfortable ... and they are far less of an eye sore than this thing is! My friends called it the "giant curling iron". That purchase was a big mistake!

After researching many outdoor heaters we found that this was our best option. We have an enclosed patio/pool area and placement of other top cap styles were to tall (you need 3' clearance). This is not only the right height but the heat radiates all the way around instead of just from the dome top. It also has a variable heat output setting. Perfect.
