5.0 out of 5 stars Marvelous, Fabulous on Big Band Kaempfert Style., May 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Bert Kaempfert: In Concert [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have this video and I watch it over and over. Anyone that is a Kaempfert fan never gets tired of the Kaempfert sound. It is heavenly to me to hear him and his music. He was a very worthwhile person in the music world for which I don't think gets enough credit. Bert Kaempfert is the name in music and this video is just too GOOD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb video !!!, May 11, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Bert Kaempfert: In Concert [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Besides the countless great albums this superb video is a reminder of how much the death of Bert Kaempfert was a loss to the world of music.
Filmed in 1979, the year before he died, this 'live' recording brilliantly captures the magic of the Kaempfert sound, and no small credit is due to engineers responsible for the digitally re-mastered sound.
Not surprisingly, several of Bert Kaempfert's classic hits are featured here together with some of his more popular recordings from the 1970s. I wasn't familiar with the Swedish singer Sylvia Vrethammer but I particularly liked her interpretations of 'L.O.V.E.' and 'You Turned My World Around'.
In the 1970s Bert Kaempfert's recordings often emphasised his musical roots in the American big band sounds of the 1940s, and the excellent orchestra assembled for this concert does full justice to hits originally associated with Woody Herman and Glenn Miller. Watch out for a superb version of Count Basie's 'Jumpin' At The Woodside.'
Among the many other highlights is the definitive instrumental version of The Beatles 'Something' and a show-stopping 'Song for Lovers'.
Compared to the live recording of the Kaempfert orchestra at London's Royal Albert Hall in 1974, this orchestra comes closer to re-creating the 'Kaempfert sound' in a 'live' concert setting.
All in all, a fine video to honour the memory of a musician touched by greatness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kaempfert in Concert : une Archive admirable !, June 17, 1999
This review is from: Bert Kaempfert: In Concert [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Merveilleux !
