My brothers & I grew up on these wonderful tales, from old vinyl records. We all committed the whole album to memory, and even now can recite many of these hilarious stories by heart, Maine accent and all.
This tradition spread to our cousins, who also can recite from memory, and at family gatherings there will ultimately be a "Bert & I Talk-Off". Whether you memorize these fabulous tales, or just listen & enjoy them, they represent the wonderful, odd colloquial turns of phrase that we still see in old, rural parts of the country. But, they are fading fast. Start a tradition, to keep these stories alive! You won't regret, I guarantee!
