Book Description

November 6, 2001
These stories about plain people sympathetically caricatured are universally enjoyed, although they just wouldn't work as well set anywhere else than in Maine. The unmistakable Down East Maine accent enhances the stories on the companion CDs and audiocassettes, while the book contains Mark Andres's wonderful pencil sketches.

5.0 out of 5 stars start a tradition, September 16, 2009

My brothers & I grew up on these wonderful tales, from old vinyl records. We all committed the whole album to memory, and even now can recite many of these hilarious stories by heart, Maine accent and all.
This tradition spread to our cousins, who also can recite from memory, and at family gatherings there will ultimately be a "Bert & I Talk-Off".

Whether you memorize these fabulous tales, or just listen & enjoy them, they represent the wonderful, odd colloquial turns of phrase that we still see in old, rural parts of the country. But, they are fading fast.

Start a tradition, to keep these stories alive! You won't regret, I guarantee!

The illustrated "Bert and I" is a fine addition to the classic stories told and recorded by Marshall Dodge and Robert Bryan ... Many "Bert and I" fans can recite the recordings from memory ... The illustrations by Mark Andres add a welcome set of visuals to these familiar tales ...
