Perfect Pasta Sauce for two and is shelf stable, like a jar,

This review is from: Bertolli Premium Pasta Sauce, Champignon & Portobello Mushroom, 13.5-Ounce Pouches (Pack of 6) (Grocery)
The convenience of Bertolli Premium Pasta Sauce Pouches cannot be overstated. Plus, the QUALITY is far above average, and you can SUBSCRIBE, making the price unbeatable! And these pouches come in unusual flavors, which are not available in most stores. Also, these pouches eliminate "what'll I do with the leftover sauce?" AND, you get to try NEW flavors without a big expense! (And when the kids want corndogs again, (!) you can have something YOU like anyway.) Bertolli makes authenic sauces, and added to pasta, the pouch serves two, OR the leftovers make an excellent lunch. (When I bring this to work, everyone else wants to know if I have any "extra." The smell all over the office drives them crazy!) I love pasta midday for the energy and appetite control gives, but I have also enjoyed these pouches on their own, as a tasty, satisfying bowl of chunky "soup" on a cold day. (All that yummy LYCOPENE!) Very recommended!

Divine Sauce, Good Value,

This sauce is impeccable on so many levels. If you're accustomed to sauces from a jar in a standard grocer, this may be a religious experience for you. This is a very chunky sauce, with tomatoes chopped about 1 to 1.5 cubic inches, and mushrooms the same or even a bit larger. Other reviewers have said this sauce is either too watery or oily for their delicate palates, but I think that's a bit whiney and not really true. Chunky sauces are naturally a bit more watery, but this is by no means excessive.
As advertised, the mushrooms are the star of the show, and unlike mushrooms in standard sauces, they're firm and very plump, and their earthy texture truly shines through. Fortunately the folks at Bertolli had the good taste not to overwhelm the subtle flavor of each type of mushroom by adding oodles of sugar, salt or garlic. The ONLY thing I ever add on occasion is a little freshly cracked pepper, which I think brings out the earthiness of the mushrooms and gives the sauce a little extra "pop". (I don't think the pepper would have the same impact if it were an actual ingredient in the sauce). The chunkiness of the sauce makes it a great tapenade or topper for bruschetta. I sometimes eat it with just bread, but it's also particularly good with stuffed pastas. You get roughly two servings from each packet, and the packets are incredibly easy to prepare. All in all a great product at a wonderful value.

This sauce has a wonderful taste and is the perfect size to feed the two of us. Was running late last night so I boiled up some pasta, threw this in the microwave and chopped some fresh basil to go on top. Had dinner ready in 10 minutes and it looked like I had put alot of effort into it. Has a rich taste to it. You will love it!

bertoli tomato sauce is the best supermarket brand in a jar ..This version is slightly lower in sodium(450mg) than it brethren but it is also not like the picture on the pouch suggests. That picture shows a vibrant looking spicy feast with an exotic name;inside is a watery brew, and not very exotic at all.But as noted above, this company makes very good sauce. The pouch it comes in is an excellent vehicle for its tansportation and preparation but it is way too expensive for what you get both in quantity and(imo) quality..(fat 4g unsat 1g carb 10g per serv)note:flavor in tomato sauce is always highly subjective to individual taste.Your move.

This has to be the world's best prepared pasta sauce. Cut where indicated
pop it in the microwave for 90 seconds, and its ready- no clean up.

This tomato sauce is very watery with very little in the way of chunky texture from the mushrooms that the packaging leads you to expect. The quantity was 1/2 that of my favorite jar sauce for the same price, and it wasn't tastier. At twice the price, I was expecting a lot of taste and a lot of mushrooms. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't very good. Completely not what I was expecting from Betolli.

Premium pasta for dinner just got way, way better! Flavorful and sodium-easy, Bertolli's pouches are easy to heat and eat and REALLY serves three.
Nice flavors! As a food guy, I've gotta praise Bertolli's excellence in both premium packaged pastas and now a great, great, fast sauce that allergy-sensitive diners can try and hopefully enjoy the way my family does. We cook our own sauces: I don't want to drop into a salt-induced coma because some processed-food additive spiked my blood pressure. Bertolli's hip to that, and has been packaging deluxe pasta treats for a while now that I really enjoy: love the pastas and LOVE these sauce pouches! Below average pasta sauce. You can get many better tasting sauces and for a lot less money in any supermarket. It has a somewhat watery, acidic taste. Could not taste the mushrooms at all. The only thing premium about this sauce is the price. Wont buy these again.

Mouth watering. Sauce that tastes like it was made at a high end Italian restaurant. Allow yourself 2 packages for a pound of hamburger. Tastes even better with lightly fried chicken breasts. One package is perfect for a party of two.

These "soft" packaged pasta sauces are a relatively new form -- shelf stable, unbreakable packaging, etc.
And Bertolli is known as a more "upscale" premium brand. I've used their pasta and sauces for years. This product, however, didn't quite live up to my expectations. It's plenty tasty, but I found no slices of mushrooms as shown on the package front in the three packages of this I've tried so far. The mushroom flavor is there, and it looks like there are very finely diced mushrooms in the sauce. But I was expecting a chunkier sauce, with mushroom slices and tomato chunks. That said, the sauce tastes very good -- plenty of ripe tomato flavor, decent garlic, earthy mushroom. I used it as a base for a spaghetti and meatballs dinner, as well as a quick lunch just heated and served over linguine. Is it worth the money? I'm not sure it is. I like the jarred sauce better in terms of texture, and it's definitely cheaper. But these are easier to store, so there's something to be said for convenience. I'm just not sure it's worth the extra $$. I give this 4 stars for the taste and convenience; 3 for value. |
