Highlights: 2nd track, and then about track 5 or 6 through the finish.

The riffs and hooks quite often succeed very well. I miss some of the shoegaze from the early 90s, and it's nice to see some bands getting into this (and thanks to Social networking and sites like Amazon for making suggestions).

I find 3 or so songs not terribly interesting (though not bad), but many of the others are really good gems with nice suspense built-up in the first part of the song, and then a nice crescendo and wonderful layering to finish it off.

My only other criticism is the vocals can get a little grating due to their combination of their sound and how long they go on. I think a bit more selective use of vocals in some songs may have been a good idea.

I do recommend this to anyone who likes shoegaze or noisy dreampop especially for the discounted price I paid.

I'm kind of surprised this band wasn't recognized with any Grammy nominations but maybe that will keep them off the radio so I can enjoy them for a little while longer and improve my "hipster cred... (I was listening to them before you ever heard of them)" ;-)

I really like the way the entire album is arranged; one track appears to lead into the next seamlessly, almost like a strangely organized rock-opera or concept album. You can listen to the tracks individually and still enjoy it but I think playing the entire album gives it a little something extra.

Overall, this is an excellent album that I get a lot of play from at home, work and on the road. I will be looking for more of The Besnard Lakes in the future.

Mysterious, eery and etherial, yet somehow hard rockin'. Electronic, yet organic, otherworldy and very earthy... a balancing of opposites, Yin and Yang.
