Bessey 3/4 H-Style pipe clamps are great. They're make out of cast iron, solid, durable, look like they'll last a life time.

I order two of these, one of them have a not so flat clamping surface, I'm a little OCD, so I'll return this and get a replacement. I'll upload a picture that show this defect. The other one is perfectly flat, so perhaps i just got one from a bad batch.

When I was looking for pipe clamps, I was considering this Bessey H-Style and the Rockler Sure-Foot. I picked these two brand because of the raised feet that allow the handle to clear the ground. I bought two of the Bessey and two of the Rockler. Both clamps are very similar (well they're pipe clamp, what else do you expect). Both are of good quality but here's the some differences between the two for those in the same boat that I was and wondering which one to get. I'll upload a couple pictures of the clamps side by side for your visual comparison.

Main Differences:

* Bessey clamp's feet are a little longer (3/8"). Ground clearance (measure from the top of the pipe). 3" for Bessey, 2 5/8" for Rockler. I'll probably glue some 3/8" thick piece of wood underneath my Rockler clamp to bring the ground clearance up to the same level of the Bessey.

* Clamping surfaces:
Bessey: 1 3/4 (width) x 1 5/8 (height).
Rockler: 1 3/4 (width) x 2 1/4 (height).

the clamping surface of the Rockler is a 3/8 taller. I prefer this. Rockler clamps also seem to have better finish, the clamping surface is smoother and flatter. I have 3 of the Bessey clamp and two of them do not have very flat & smooth clamping surfaces. Would it make a different in clamping? probably not.

* Bessey come with rubber cover for the clamping surface to protect your work.

Pipe clamps sometimes get a bad rap...sort of the grunt way of doing things. But with the feet on these Bessey clamps providing some clearance from your work table, bench, the ground, or whatever, I find these have a slight advantage over some other clamp styles. Add to that the ability to use this clamp at virtually any size/length, and at a good price...that's a good package.

I agree with most reviewers that the Bessey clamp design has some nice advantages and they certainly look solid and well made. However, we've now had 4 sets fail after only a year or so of routine use (ok, routine for us is about 3-4 overnight clampings per week). The threads on the shafts and/or inside the body wore down to the point that they slip. We've never used anything but our hands to tighten them, so I certainly don't feel they've been abused in anyway. Bessey was nice enough to replace the first pair of clamps that failed after we provided them a video of the threads slipping. I hoped it was a transient problem with the steel hardness, but the replacement pair failed in the same way about a year later. I'm surprised no-one else has reported this issue, but again our usage may be much more than average. If it weren't for this little problem, we'd love the clamps. I'm sure they work great for most folks with occasional light-duty use.

Hands down the best model of pipe clamp available. The feet offer stability, clearance from the work surface and double as a hook for storage. All other models that offer this feature are more expensive. Also, all other models that offer non-marring pads do so separately, increasing cost noticeably when stocking up on clamps. These clamps are better and cheaper than the competition, can't beat it. They're even cheaper elsewhere online.

I bought a six foot 3/4 inch pipe at the hardware store. It was threaded on both ends, so I figured that I would cut it in the middle and put pipe clamps on each end. The reviews for both the Bessey BPC-34 and the Jorgensen 50 Pony clamp were good, so I bought one of each.

Bessey BPC-34
* Pros: Slightly lower cost, plastic clamp covers, slightly better foot design
* Cons: Finish is adequate, but a bit rough

Jorgensen 50 Pony clamp
* Pros: Heavier duty screw, tighter clearance between clamp and pipe, heavier duty tail stop, heavier-duty design overall

There's nothing at all wrong with this clamp, although I believe that the Jorgensen clamp is better built and offers better value.

I made the mistake of buying ½ dozen Irwin clamps before I tried these. I was so happy that I bought 2 dozen Bessy's after reading the reviews, which were favorable (not just Amazon reviews) that I will be purchasing another dozen. The feet have a much wider stance than any other clamp I have used and the clearance of the handle to the table is at least 3/8" more than the Irwin's (I did measure them). The finish is tough and the handle is not so slippery like the chrome. I also prefer the threaded end which makes for more stable work all around. The Pony clamp pads I had laying around fit perfectly too! 5 Stars *****

Nice pipe clamps useful for many jobs in home or shop. When you buy your pipe be sure to get end caps to protect the threads and keep the spiders out. Spiders love to live in 3/4 pipe. I have seen black widow spiders in pipe often. Also as another review states get a coupler to screw pipe together for a longer clamp when needed.
