Absolutely perfect for what I needed it for. Which is holding some of the small parts to work on when I'm building wooden puzzle boxes.
The vacuum base is strong enough that when engaged, I can grab the vise and lift the table it's attached to. The rubber jaw covers means no marring the wood when tightened down. The tilt/swivel feature lets me position the piece I'm working on at an optimal angle in a matter of seconds. And the solid construction means that it will last for many years to come.

The build-quality of this vacuum base vise is outstanding. The value is considerable when compared to the much more expensive PanaVise 381 Vacuum Base. The holding power of this vacuum base on a plastic laminated or other clean, smooth surface is excellent. The vise head can be clamped in just about any angle. You can rotate the vise head 90º and the anvil shroud will rest securely against your work surface. The large locking ring does not require much pressure to securely hold the 1.5 inch diameter ball mount in any position, rock solid. I added a little lubricant to the vise screw and posts since it did not come pre-lubricated. It easily spins open and closed with precision. The removable rubber jaw covers are 7/8 inches high by 2.75 inches long. The steel jaws are replaceable and have vertical and horizontal V-grooves for holding round stock. The jaws open 2.5 inches. The vise weighs 3 pounds. The housing is made of non-ferrous metal, painted metallic silver. Jaws, screw, rails, handles, ball and stem are made of steel, This is a real value for a well-made tool.

Great little product! It's a little smaller than in the photo but it works! It's made of metal. Not sure of what but it's all metal. I was afraid of first because it looks like it was made of plastic but once i got it i felt the weight and also did a little dinging on the product to see if it make a metal sound just to reassure myself. It holds a grip quite well. I used it to build my AR-15. Highly recommend. Best bang for the buck without any drillings to have it stick on your desk!

I really wanted to like this vise. I made every excuse in the book to myself when using it to make myself think it was a good purchase... I was wrong.

The things you would think make this vise a great thing to have:

1) It literally can go anywhere due to the suction system.
2) You can swivel the vise in any direction you may need.
3) It's a great value for the price.

These "pros" that you thought about before your purchase actually end up being its downfalls.

1) The "suction" you thought was nice (being able to take it anywhere) does not last more than 5-10 minutes; So unless you are using the vise for a quick job (with only light torquing by the way), the vise will lose its suction and leave you fumbling around trying not to let your vise and the contents its holding for you hit the ground or the surface you're using it on. If you think this vise will hold anything overnight (or even for 30 minutes), you're wrong.

2) The ball and nut swivel system this vise has seems nice before hand, until you start using it. The first time you use it, you'll end up tightening the nut too loose, then you'll tighten it more thinking you didn't tighten it enough before - until you try and loosen it. You'll find yourself wondering - am I superman? How the heck did I get this vise swivel nut so tight? At times, I had to use a mallet hammer just to get it to loosen - and not just one hit with the hammer, several. Anything less than this and the vise will move around like crazy while torquing anything its holding.

3) If you do very light hobby work (I'm talking less than 2-3 Ft.Lbs of torque at any given time), and you don't need to use it for more than 5-10 minutes at a time, this vise might be great for you.

The last time I moved I threw out the little vacuum base vise that I had then. It really didn't meet my needs. The features improved by Bessey BVVB follows:

First, the adjustable mouth of the Bessey vise is covered with removable thick and really tough rubberized/plastic covers that have specially designed markings to help hold whatever is in the vise (the piece) with minimal force. When these coverings are removed, a more standard smooth steel jaw is available.

Second, it's mounted on a large ball joint that allows movement of the jaws to virtually any position. Users can easily move the piece to any angle. this certainly makes working on the piece much easier. This action is controlled by revolving a large circular part above the actual base of the unit. Because it is shaped to give a strong hand grip with maximum torque, it may be tightened securely with minimal hand strength.

Third, under the steel base is the rubber sucker that, when pressed down on surfaces, like tile or glass, holds the unit very securely. I am very impressed with its strength. And it works perfectly without the need to wet the surface, though this might help if the surface is not really smooth. My old vise had this but it was degraded over the last 30 years.

Finally, to my surprise, I find no indication on the unit that it's an import.
