Bessey EKT55 Clamp,

This clamp fills a specific need pretty well (at a significant price). I have used it primarily to install face frames on cabinets. It is easy to use and light considering its size. The mechanism worked smoothly. My only disappointment was that it did not apply as much pressure as I hoped. This may be because it was trying to grip a finished surface. I think it might do better on raw wood. I would be concerned if I needed a lot of pressure and the inside of the cabinet was laminated. I tried the Gross-Stabile model and took it back to get these. I am happy I did.

Perfect. What a great idea. Bought 12 of them. Great for face fronts on shelves.

Bessey EKT-55 edge clamp,

Very pleasant to use. The large metal casting is suprisingly lightweight, and some of the mechanism inside is plastic, so it is nice and light. I used mine to clamp edge molding onto plywood while gluing, and it gripped just fine, no slippage at all (so yes, to the reviewer above, it's great for bare wood). Much faster and easier to use than bar clamps. Now if only they can dramatically lower the price so I can get a bunch of 'em instead of just one...

Purchased a cheaper brand before I bought these. they were a cam system, but the rubber pads didn't stick. The Bessey EKT55 One-Handed Edge Clamp is not only a better gripper, the pads don't come loose. The action is smooth. The construction is sturdy. Real wood handle. A little spendy, but worth it.

Throat Depth Counts!,
By The clamp would be OK for edge banding, but if you are doing anything else, be sure to check the required throat depth

bessey one handed edge clamp review,

As a woodworking product developer and tool consultant(with more variety of clamps than perhaps anyone from here to Timbuktu) I can say securely I know whereof I speak: these are well intended but very poorly performing edge clamps that fail on multiple fronts: over and under engineered, durometer and coefficient of friction on opposing grip pads is not suited to task, jaw depth is insufficient as one almost always need caul to spread load, pressure is too low, setup awkward, price too high etc etc.
Try cam teardrop type Euro made or cheapo China spring loaded version edge clamps(careful of rubber jaw liners delaminating!!).If using larger ones on on a substantive edgeband (ie and tightening securely)I would use a rubber and steel sandwich or rubber and thin hardboard ply buffer pads to spread load as tear drop jaws can dent ply that may only be visible when you apply finish!! |
