5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Best
If an alien came down and asked me: "What is music?" I would give him Bach's "St.John Passion", a Mozart symphony, and Kitaro's "The Best of Ten". These are the works of a genius, a spiritual giant. There are selections in this collection that make me weep for joy. Buy this 2CD set and bathe in the glow of its magic.

3.0 out of 5 stars Neat, extremely short CDs
For a prolific and good composer like Kitaro, it may be difficult to provide a nice compliation that can satisfy everyone. But this one does a pretty good job on selection of tracks. However, the CDs seem to be a bit "short" - time-wise, and I am a bit upset about having to pay a 2 CD price and then get a 1.5 CD worth music. Granted, the selections will be to...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best of Ten, February 18, 2000

It is unfortunate that a large portion of the population of this country never has the opportunity to hear such music. Radio stations should be required to expose people to something more than just so called "popular music." If people never hear it, how can it ever become popular?

Kirtaro's music stirs the soul. I was fan in 1982 when I owned a number of his albums on vinyl while living on Okinawa. Coming back to Okinawa last year prompted my search for Kitaro again. This "Best of Ten" collection on CD is awesome. Kitaro's musical genius captures traditional oriental impressions and mixes them with modern technology to make your stereo come alive!

Not only does Kitaro write and perform his music but it is as if we are only visitors to the pure passion that is his life. Pure passion is hard to find in our age of machines, unless, of course, one listens to Kitaro regularly!

However, the CDs seem to be a bit "short" - time-wise, and I am a bit upset about having to pay a 2 CD price and then get a 1.5 CD worth music. Granted, the selections will be to the liking of all Kitaro and most New age fans...a little bit of repitition in tunes and arrangements, but nothing annoying. Good CDs, not classic. Between this and Mozart/Bach, pick the latter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soundtrack to the Happiest Days of Your Life, October 16, 2001
This review is from: Best of 10 Years (1976-1986) (Audio CD)
I have always had a problem with the term new age as it applies to music. It encompasses artists like William Ackerman, George Winston, Ray Lynch, Enya and of course Japanese synthesizer player Kitaro. What do these artists have in common? For me it's the otherworldy quality of their music. It's music that conveys a sense of peace and calm--an almost spiritual quality. The music on these two discs are the soundtrack to the happiest days of your life. Listen and enjoy. [My only complaint is that both discs clock in at under fifty minutes.] RECOMMENDED

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth listening to..., September 6, 1998

Kitaro has shared the creativeness of mind and spirit in his music that is beautifully conveyed in this collection of what I would consider to be his best works. The melodies within this album are soothing, thought-provoking, imaginative and powerful. One can't help but be transported to another place and another time, by a journey of sorts if you will, to a place where only one's soul finds in the moment of peace and meditation. Definitely worth listening to from beginning to end. Too bad there isn't a rating level of 6 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Spiritual healing for a needful world, March 5, 2001
This review is from: Best of 10 Years (1976-1986) (Audio CD)
If music like this could be heard by more people around the world, there would be less spiritual void in the hearts of us all. This type of musical and spiritual fulfillment could bring many people part of the self awareness we all need to live a more peaceful, understanding, sharing, and a less destructive, materalistic life.
