5.0 out of 5 stars What's not to like?, June 20, 2007

CRAZOTOLOGY (Joplin, MO. (USA)) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Best of 16 Volt (Audio CD)
It's the best of 16 Volt. Coldwave industrial metal. Good as a place to start as any I suppose. But just for the record, the verry best 16 Volt album ever isn't featured on this disc....because it didn't come out till 2007. The album I'm referring to is called "Full Black Habit", and it's incredible.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good collection for a 16volt newbie..., July 17, 2008
This review is from: Best of 16 Volt (Audio CD)
After being a fan of 16volt since I first heard the album Skin in the '90s, I was a bit surprised to see a "greatest hits" disc. At the time it came out, there were only 4 albums in their catalog. This disc does a good job demonstrating how 16volt has changed from being a Skinny Puppy soundalike (the first album was produced by David Ogilvie after all) to a heavier sound that is more guitar driven, and less atmospheric. Although 16volt isn't dripping with the anger that I normally associate with great industrial music, when you sound as hard as them, you don't need the overt anger. All in all, the studio disc does a good job balancing the songs from their catalog, containing 4 songs from each disc. The live disc also includes a good selection, with the majority of the songs coming from supercoolnothing, the best 16volt album. If you've never heard 16volt, and are looking for an good industrial band I'd suggest picking this up. If you've been a fan for years, the studio disc isn't presenting anything new, so unless you really like live albums, you can skip this one. Or go ahead and buy it to show your support for Eric Powell so he'll keep making new music!
