Editorial Reviews

For the first time on CD, Raven Presents a definitive multi-label compilation from Chip Taylor. Born James Voight (Brother Of Actor Jon Voight, Uncle Of Angelina Jolie), Chip Taylor is an artist just begging for anthology. This collection examines the New York singer songwriter's work from 1971 to 1979. here are 23 essential tracks culled from eight albums originally released by Buddah, Warner, Columbia and Capitol - a fertile period that found him accepted as a peer of Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt and John Prine. His songs are bound by a common thread of intelligent, visionary writing and performance in a 'Roots' style that has stood the ultimate test of time.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Chip Who" January 8, 2010

It's hard to believe that someone so prolific could fly under the radar for so long. For babyboomers who love music, Chip Taylor's music transcends country. He really is one of the first country-rock artists....he just sounds country. You may balk at the price of this import, but no other U.S. label has seized the opportunity to put out a similar package which is unfortunate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Americana Songwriting Gems March 21, 2014
By Craig
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
A lot of current Americana and Roots fans are familiar with Chip Taylors' recent work, including his albums with Carrie Rodriguez, all of which are very worthwhile. This anthology covers most of his early recordings, and were not widely played on radio stations of the day. I think he is a song writing genius, but also enjoy his vocals, and as always, his backup is superb.

Highly recommended.
