MORE GREAT ROD ROCK,
By
This review is from: Best of 2 (Audio CD)
Volume 2 contains more great rock tracks from the early Rod Stewart, including his interpretations of folk classics like Man Of Constant Sorrow and Reason to Believe plus rock standards like That's Allright. His deep voice was so right for the time, his material was top quality and he sang with conviction. My other favourites include the wistful Tomorrow Is A Long Time and the majestic Mandolin Wind. I'm not crazy about Twistin' The Night Away, Natural Man or Sweet Little Rock 'n Roller but that's no big deal - there's more than enough gold here to satisfy all fans of genuine early 70s rock. But be sure to get Best Of Vol. One too for his other classics from the period such as You Wear It Well, What Made Milwaukee Famous and Maggie May. If Rod had carried on like this, he would have been as big as Elvis now. Nfortunately he chose the MoR route which ensured him success for a time, and then faded. This great collection is a showcase of what was and what could have been - a guaranteed listening pleasure for fans of real rock.

This is the Rod that could have been sitting in your living room with an acousitc guitar. If you latched onto Rod after 1980, take a step back and hear what you missed. This is a great "Best Of." Start with #1 and then move to #2. And Rod...Thank You.

The review in Stereo Review October 1998 (p.90) says it best. Good value and excellent remastering!

This review is from: Best of 2 (Audio CD)
Along with the best of Rod Stewart part one this is just as important. All the songs are classics here just as in part one. From 'Man Of Constant Sorrow' all the way up to 'Twistin The Night Away' If you are even semi interested in Rod Stewart you need this along with part one and you will be able to appreciate the masterful work of one of rocks greatest acts.

I like Stewart's 70's tracks, they are more interesting and emotional than his 1980's work or 90's for that matter. But then again what rock star that started out in the 1960's or 70's did that great in both time periods ? I can only think of a few that made it. This album is still worth listening to and only you can decide if its worth the buy or not.
