4.0 out of 5 stars Shift Your Brains into Neutral and Have A Great Time, March 16, 2002
This review is from: Best of the 60's (Audio CD)
So what it Freddie and the Dreamers were not the most intellectual band out there. They were almost as much fun to listen to as they were to watch. People old enough to remember their appearances on shows like The Ed Sullivan Show will surely recall the sight of nerdy little Freddie Garrity, arms and legs flying every-which-way, doing The Freddie and looking like he was having the time of his life.

That same feeling permeated their music, and if you only know them from one or two hits, you've really cheated yourself out of a good time. Go beyond "I'm Telling You Now" and "Do the Freddie," and you'll find overlooked gems such as "You Were Made for Me," "Over You," and (my personal favorite) "Little Bitty Pretty One". They also had a good knack for picking established songs to pad their repertoire, covering works by people like Paul Anka, Lieber and Stoller, Chuck Berry, and Berry Gordy.

If you want music that will impress your friends, go somewhere else. If you want something that will get your toe tapping, your mood lifting, and the urge to sing along rising, this is a great, inexpensive little album. Who knows, you might even find yourself doing The Freddie along with the music (at least if you're sure that you're alone)!...
