Twenty Six Different Afghans,
By
This review is from: Our Best Afghans, A to Z (Leisure Arts #3014) (Paperback)
I have had this afghan pattern book for awhile, but have recently finished my first afghan from it. I made the "Winter Warmers" afghan for my sister-in-law and her husband for Christmas. It's one of 26 different afghan patterns in the book...from A to Z....from "All American" to "Zest for the West". I do recommend this book.
There are a variety of pattern styles....lacy, bold, fun, classic, delicate and handsome. Construction styles include squares and strips, as well as afghans that are made as a whole cloth. Most use worsted weight yarn. While none of the patterns includes a difficulty level, I would guess that most are at the intermediate level, with a few at the easy level. There is a full color photo of each afghan. A couple of the photos show the finished afghan in both a solid color and in a three-color option. I very much enjoyed making the "Winter Warmers" afghan and look forward to making a couple of others from the book. Both the "Just Blues" and "Bold Beauty" caught my eyes. I have posted photos of the finished "Winter Warmers" afghan to this product's photo gallery. I should note that I made a couple of modifications from the instructions. First, I made it bigger than the pattern called for, so it would cover a double bed. I also omitted the fringe and instead edged the entire afghan in two rounds of stitches (first sc, then dc). Enjoy looking at the photos.

This book isn't very well organized. The pictures of the finished products don't seem to be in any rational order. This wouldn't be a problem if the page numbers for the patterns were on the photo's or if the page number for the photo's was included in the patterns, but they are not.
Not for a beginning crocheter. Okay for more advanced crocheters that do not mind hunting through the book to match up photos with patterns.

Love the cover afghan,

I have the pattern for the cover afghan. My mother made this afghan many years ago and won a first place ribbon at the fair. Everyone that sees it wants the pattern. She didn't have any problems making it. In fact once people saw my afghan she ended up making many more. She used colors very much like the ones in the picture for her first one. I put a picture of this afghan in my online crochet group album and had more requests for the pattern than anything else I've shared. Of course I've never "shared" my pattern, but people have been able to find it here and there. I would say that just for the afghan on the cover this book is worth the price.
