Probably the funniest writing Smith, ever.,
By GBArg "GBArg" (MI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Best of H. Allen Smith (Paperback)
H. Allen Smith was a premier humorist for the Greatest Generation._The Best of H. AlleN Smith_ is a great selection of his works, put together by a panel of writers and critics who knew their stuff, most knowing Mr. Smith personally. There are several short stories, including "One Coat of White" which was made into a television special. Altogether there are more than 80 selections, most of them writing gold. His recounts of interviewing and writing about H. L. Mencken show another side of the great curmudgeon (when he wrote) and warm individual (if he knew you). And be careful when following the dictums of Mr. Mencken's epitaph, because things can spin out of control. If you can't find something funny or heartwarming among these selections, friend, you ain't got no sense of humor, or humanity. |
