An Andrew Lloyd CD to Avoid,
By
This review is from: The Best of Andrew Lloyd Webber (Audio CD)
This is Webber homogenized into elevator music. The CD hits it's ablsolute nadir in "Don't Cry for Me Argentina." The unnamed singer has a fine voice, but her performance packs all the emotional wallop of a yawn. The rest of the CD goes much the same.

This CD is listed at a comparatively low price to other Webber anthologies...for good reason. If you can listen before you buy, you'll understand what I mean. One final suggestion to the producers: Music of the Night does not need drums...really, it doesn't.

The names of the singers can not be found on the CD... for good reason! There are many excellent Lloyd Webber CDs. This is not one of them.

I'm astonished that Andrew Lloyd Webber ever gave his permission for this CD to be released! It is awful, there are some tracks that sound like they were done on somebody's Casio keyboard in their bedroom. If you buy this CD you WILL BE SORRY! As a matter of fact I'm seriously thinking of contacting Mr. Webber's orginization to see if they have heard this travesty.

One of the oddest things ever attempted by Andrew Lloyd Webber was giving these unknown guys permission to sing his songs. But what are the names of the singers? And why did they do this? Questions aside, just get an ALW album by a familiar singer we all know and love. Céline Dion would make perfect for "Don't Cry For Me, Argentina," for one thing. I can hear Andrea Bocelli singing "The Music of the Night." And the rest, in reality, is history.
