Charming DVD - Wonderful Andy !,

This dvd takes you back in time and it is a charming trip indeed! So much talent is displayed before your eyes. The incredible ease of the performances, the relax and joyous atmosphere that emanate from these clips is something to cherish. You can't help but wish for more. Please Mr.Williams a second,third... volume soon. Or better still why not the entire seasons (box sets). Your new generation of fans needs more visual materials to enjoy.

Proof positive that musical talent ONCE existed on TV!,

My mother's favorite singer was Andy Williams when I was growing up so he was perceived by me as a singer for "the older generation." Now that I've entered my forties, I think I've become part of that generation (!), which is why it's so enjoyable to discover DVD's like this. My only remembrance (vague, at best) of Andy on television were his annual Christmas specials. This compilation of sequences from his 1960's television series is wonderful and could have been much longer. There needs to be a cable channel, similar to TV Land, that should broadcast these shows in their entirety. All of the performances are entertaining in an era when talent and warmth were on televised display. It's always great to see the early Osmond Brothers, Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald and others from that era. The quality of the color telecasts are great; this DVD is a perfect companion to Andy's "Best of..." Christmas DVD. Andy, I expect to see a Volume II!...and III!...how about IV?

He seems to be just a plain old nice guy.,

His show started the year I was born, and ended before I really got into watching television. Now I can barely contain my frustration that the genre of variety television is gone. The best thing about this DVD is that it gets right to the point; it has a modern-day intro by Mr. Williams himself, then segues immediately into the clips (which also make up the DVD's menu of scenes)- and captions everything, from guest star name to airdate and year. Look for the *4* Osmond brothers (sans Donny, but with baby Marie); Pearl Bailey at her most diva; Carlos Jobim performing "Girl From Ipanema" in Spanish [with Mr. Williams doing so in English]; a "clown makeup" fight with Judy Garland; a marvelous duet with Ella Fitzgerald; and a marvelous 'triplet' with Eddie Fisher and Bobby Darin. Most impressive about the show is the star himself: he seemed (and seems) to be a genuinely kind, genial, humble, humorous guy, and I'm not the least bit surprised that his show enjoyed an amazing nine-year run. Hope he reads this someday.

I grew up on Andy Williams. At 46 years of age (not the average age of an Andy Williams fan) I continue to believe he is the most versatile vocalist of our time. This dvd demonstrates the master at work. Consider his style and the effortless way he touches a broad range of notes in "The Way You Look Tonight." His duet with Tony Bennett challenges Bennett fans to place Andy Williams in the number one spot. His duet with Julie Andrews produces a blend so perfect that it runs chills up the spine. A young Bobby Darrin sings with Williams and smiles like a little boy. Any man who watches this dvd will walk away envious of William's smooth voice, suave style, and charismatic personality.

I JUST WANTED TO SAY I LOVE THIS DVD. IT BROUGHT BACK SUCH GREAT MEMORIES WATCHING THE ANDY WILLIAMS SHOW WHEN I WAS ONLY 12.THIS MAN HAD SUCH AN INCREDIBLE VOICE THEN AND STILL DOES NOW. I LOVED EVERY SEQUENCE OF THIS DVD ,ESPECIALLY THE OSMONDS WITH MARIE. THAT WAS PRECIOUS. I JUST WISH IT HAD BEEN LONGER THAN THE 58 MIN. I WANT MORE. I HOPE THERE IS A VOL. 2 , MAYBE 3, SOMEWHERE IN THE NEAR FUTURE...

This is a great disc and if I were to have one criticism that would be as 58 minutes it is too short. That aside, this is a very enjoyable DVD and I hope that many more compilations, or even better, complete editions of the show, will follow.

This is an excellent DVD that hightlights Andy's pick of what he felt were some of his best moments during his TV show broadcast from 1962 to 1971. This is excellent viewing material and just plain fun for both those who are starting to get to be familiar with Andy Williams' work as well as those taking a stroll down memory lane. The quality of the picture and sound is excellent and the guests are very talented people. My only disappointment was that maybe Andy could have added other moments from other seasons of his shows--the majority of the clips are from the years 1965 to 1967. I vote this as a BUY; and I would have given it five stars were there more moments from other seasons added. Maybe this calls for a volume two? GRIN

Firstly, don't listen to the reviewer from Roy, Utah who said the best part was Donny Osmond - Donny DOES NOT appear on this video. The 4 older brothers sing with Andy and Marie makes an appearance. It is however a great video with some wonderful stars.

This guy can really sing. When Andy sings "The Way You Look Tonight",he hits notes and holds them as few singers can. This was truly a classic singing performance. It is so nice to see and hear some of the great performers singing and my only gripe is that this very entertaining DVD should be longer. How about volume 2 Andy?

I'm too young to remember his TV show, and I've been kind of lukewarm to Williams' records, other than the occasional brilliant song or single. But he really shines in this hour long special. This is mostly songs with some comedy thrown in, so you're not going to get a lot of sketch humor, but you do get performers like Tony Bennett, Bobby Darin, and composer Antonio Carlos Jobim accompanying Williams. Williams more than holds his own with all the performers, and as a bonus he dances with Henry Mancini. You don't get any of his hits other than "In the Arms of Love" and a spooky version of "Moon River" that plays over the DVD menu on an endless loop. My favorite is Williams' duet with Tony Bennett and his solo version of the relatively unknown title song from "The Pawnbroker" which is just excellent. This is a definite must own if you like classic pop music and/or variety shows and stands up to repeated viewings. |
