Anne the Great!,

This cd justly confirms my admiration for the british songbird. I like her material from the 1940's but I prefer her later work where she gets to shine more. Except for "Lay down your arms", all the other songs on this cd were unknown to me and most are a surprise. What a delight to hear Anne's versions of "Sailor", "Volare" and "Kiss of fire". The remastering is great except for the first number "Put Your Shoes On Lucy" which could be better. My favorites songs besides those already mentioned include: "Isle Of Innisfree, "Do You Love Me Like You Kissed Me" and "If I Were A Blackbird". Thank you Anne for your great legacy.

Anne's fifties and sixties hits,
By
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
Anne is best remembered as one of the forces' sweethearts. Although somewhat overshadowed by Dame Vera Lynn, Anne was an excellent singer and made plenty of brilliant music of her own.
Four of Anne's five UK chart hits are here, although I wonder how many more hits Anne would have had if sales charts had existed before November 1952. The hits here - saved for the last four tracks - are Lay down your arms (a UK number one hit in 1956), Sailor (a UK top ten hit for Anne in 1964 despite Petula Clark's rival version being a UK number one hit), Seven days (a UK top twenty hit) and Village of St Bernadette (a minor UK hit for Anne - this song was a top twenty American hit for Andy Williams). Apart from those hits, this set includes Anne's excellent covers of Volare and Great pretender as well as several other wonderful songs including Loveliest night of the year, Moth and the flame, Do you love me like you kissed me and If I were a blackbird. If you are looking for Anne's early music (including Lili Marlene), you can find it on other compilations of her music. Nevertheless, the music here (from later in her career) is also worth hearing.
