5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Lemonheads? Yeah, why not?
Mr Dando's songs are unbelievable, let me first say this. Are they represented on this album, why not. To be very technical, "is this actually the very best of the Lemonheads?" -No. Whoever put the album together left out some serious gems like "Stove", "Down About It", and "Paint." We serious fans get a little sad when we see...

3.0 out of 5 stars a better idea...
Instead of getting this album, just buy "It's A Shame About Ray" and "Come On Feel The Lemonheads." Those two albums have all the songs from this "greatest hits" cd (except one or two), plus many more excellent ones that are just as good. You won't regret it.

To be very technical, "is this actually the very best of the Lemonheads?" -No. Whoever put the album together left out some serious gems like "Stove", "Down About It", and "Paint." We serious fans get a little sad when we see our favorite band get cut up like this, but the final result is an album that will definitely rock your socks off, no kidding. Although not everything was put on there, some of these songs represent the best rock songs of the 90's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Pop Rock, May 27, 2003

This is a great Cd and a "must have" for any rock fan of great bands-great music. As for you people that bemoan the lack of the LEMONHEADS' earlier recordings before they signed with Atlantic Records, try bashing their previous record label(s) for not issuing any of it, as that label owns the rights to the previous output by this band. Atlantic has given us a high quality collection here of the LEMONHEADS' BEST recordings from THE ATLANTIC YEARS, as it states.

As stated, this is the best of the Atlantic years, hence no early material. Most of what's here is very foot-tappin' and happy. If your interested in the singles from the last few cd's, then this is what you want. Included is "Into your arms", "If I could talk I'd tell you", and 5 tracks from the "It's a Shame about Ray" album. Actually, that album is just as good as this collection is in my opinion. If you enjoy artists such as "Juliana Hatfield" and "Toad the wet sprocket", you'll like either of these Lemonheads cd's. Let's hope Evan can get some more music out soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Lemonheads CD, February 23, 2002

I love CDs that offer alittle of everything, and this greatest hits collection does just that. Most importantly, the best version ever done of "Mrs. Robinson" is the Lemonheads version, and it alone is worth the price of the CD. If you have never heard it, you need to get this CD. Yes, the CD has the punkish popish rock the Lemonheads are known for, but this CD offers more with the a country-ish "Big Gay Heart", and a wonderful acoustic "Ride With Me". It is an outstanding greatest hits collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Lemonheads: The Atlantic Years, February 20, 2006

I am just going to face it. All the great stuff this band and Evan Dando put out is just about impossible to find. In order to get even a little of what is out there means scourging the most obscure sources. It is just not fair. I am so frustrated...AHHHHHH

Do you have ten dollars? That about sums it up.

This record is great I have always really enjoying the honest and sincere music this man and band has put out. Their records have been those that come in and out of my life, I usually lose them only to rediscover them at some later date.

This record is great song after great song. Confetti, Into your arms and If I could talk I'd tell you are sweet ballads that convey a lust for life. The songs manage to balance melencoly and sanguine undertones, some times a little down and others very optimistic. I give up trying to explain how great the lemonheads are this is a good record for ten dollars but it does not come close to covering all the greatest hits.

3.0 out of 5 stars bittersweet, April 11, 2007
This review is from: Best Of: Atlantic Years (Audio CD)
This cd pairs both driving electric songs with more somber acoustic "ballads". Songs about drugs and love seem to be the main theme here. Not to say this is a bad thing. Alot of mid-90's pop bands made careers out of drugs and love. Some are even still around. My Drug Buddy is actually a really good stand out track for me. An electric cover of Simon & Garfunkle's "Mrs. Robinson" makes for a fun upbeat musical experience. I'd say that this is a good cd for a long drive. It's not my favorite record, but it's not sooo bad as to be called the worst thing I've ever heard. I give it three stars for making these songs sound so happy and being able to sing along. Besides who doesn't like to hear Julianna Hatfield?

4.0 out of 5 stars The Best of The Lemonheads....I don't Think so, July 22, 2005

Well, when I heard at first time "Into your Arms" I knew that this band is the perfect mix between Country, Pop and Rock. I heard All the Atlantic Albums (Lovey, It's a Shame About Ray, Come On Feel, Car Button Cloth)and I must to said that this album is incomplete, this is the American Version, cuz the UK and the Australian Version has more tracks.
I've never heard the Lemonheads Taang! Albums, only few songs, but I must to said that I'm still waiting to hear the Complete, but complete Best of The Lemonheads, mixing the Best of Taang! and Atlantic Era.
It could be great hear the Punk and the Alternative Ego that Evan and his band played in the middle of 80's and 90's.

5.0 out of 5 stars a treasure trove of sparkling songs, July 24, 1998

It's a summers day-the suns beating down, their's a cool beer in one hand and your favourite book in the other, and as you lay by the pool, naked and basking-someone in the next room slips this c.d. into the player....and your day turns even brighter.... this is the finest collection of 'sunny' songs one could ever wish for, exuberating and simple to the point of sublime....every track on this colourful c.d. is flawless and although this fine release may not clock the lemonheads more darker moments,it sure boasts the hell out of Evans brighter side....WELL DONE!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a shame about The Lemonheads..., May 23, 2000

This review is from: Best Of: Atlantic Years (Audio CD)
This album collects the best of The Lemonheads' work while signed to Atlantic, so it covers the albums 'Lovey', 'It's a Shame About Ray', 'Come On Feel The Lemonheads' and 'Car Button Cloth'. Most of the material comes from the middle two albums; from 'Lovey' we have a version of 'Ride With Me' (not the album version) and from 'Car Button Cloth' we get the underrated 'Hospital' and 'The Outdoor Type'.

So Atlantic have packaged this up as a pop album, brushing the punk aggression of 'Lovey' under the carpet, minimising the 'my drug hell' references and presenting the lovable Evan Dando instead. Having said that, almost every song here is excellent bubblegum pop (though the 'new' track 'Rudy With A Flashlight' isn't up to much, really).

When you listen to this best-of, you realise how good Evan Dando is at (1) writing songs, and (2) singing them - the kind of stuff that the drug-focused media coverage never emphasised. I'm just hoping Evan gets his act together and sorts out a new label for himself... in the meantime, I could do someone compiling "The Best of The Lemonheads: The Taang! Years" - with 'Luka', 'Circle of One', 'Amazing Grace' and all the old ones...
