European recipes translated and beautifully displayed,
By KeenanJay@aol.com (Niceville, Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Best Of Baking (Paperback)
The recipes in this beautifully illustrated book are excellent examples of European (primarily German) baking. The recipes are clear and easy to follow, though the methods used are a little labor intensive compared to U.S. baking. But then again, you don't get such beautiful results by cutting corners. The results are consistent, authentic and usually delicious. My favorite baking book by far. A must have for serious bakers with a taste for fancy European treats.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Best Of Baking (Paperback)
I bought the original hard cover copy of this book a few months after publication back in 1979 from a german book store in San Jose Costa Rica. I am a Professional Baker, Cake Decorator, Caterer and Dessert Specialist in the tradition of the British & European Desserts since 1970, when I made and sold my first wedding cake. I have been looking to replace this book with another for my collection because this one is worn and tattered, I have used it to death. Amazon please do get copies so I can purchase one. The cover of the paperback does not do the hard cover photo justice with its rich honey colored jacket and bread and cakes on a prep table. The recipes in this book have earned me a living for the past 30 years and I have incorporated several in my best ever signature desserts and bread. The yeast donut, the sugar bun, the apple strudel, the pannetone, the cakes and pastries, the cookies and the creme fillings are all authentic tasting german and european fare. This book was a great teacher for me and I consider myself one of the best bakers in reproducing original flavours and textures of the 'good old recipes'. I would like the authors to know that this is a classic and should never be out of print. A real work of culinary art. It's now November 2011. I came across this review I did in 2009 and I realized that I did not state that I bought the soft cover copy of The Best of Baking from Amazon.com ; and I am literally blown away to read that everyone who has ever bought and used this book have only Wonderful things to say about it..All true I might add!!
