A Lot Better Than I Thought,
By HeadbangerDuh (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Best of Ballads & Blues (Audio CD)
I thought this would be a lame collection of lame songs. But when I put it in, I was actually very suprised. It is pretty much all their ballads (I love their ballads), and some hard-rocking blues tracks. One track doesn't really fit(Good Love), but it is a powerfully cool song, so I was happy to have it. For a true collection of Poison, get Greatest Hits, but this is also extremely good.

Greatest hits 2,
By

Poison rocks.
This cd is the greatest hits 2, featuring tracks from every album except for the most recent 'Hollyweird' which is great however it had some of the same songs as the first greatest hits cd. I believe it should've focused even more on the best tracks from the albums that came out after the first greatest hits : 'Crack a smile', 'Power to the people' and 'Hollyweird' and also the best hits from 'Native tongue' as there was only one song from that album on the first greatest hits. A combination of this album and the 'Rock champions' compilation would have been perfect.

Life Loves a Therapy????,

Other than the grossly mislabeled song on the CD (listen to the CD via Windows Media Player and the title of Life Loves a Tragedy is titled "Life Loves a Therapy") this album is beyond fantastic. You CANNOT go wrong with this CD. Poison is so much more than a rock-n-roll band, and it shows with this CD. Poison can any type of song (blues, ballad, whatever) and do it justice. Not many bands out there can do that.

Good, but there is better!!,

Everyone loves Poison...that's why they still tour, and sell records. However, for those of you who have NOT checked out Bret Michael's solo record, SONGS OF LIFE, you're missing out. Bret IS the songwriter in Poison..and you can hear that clearly on Songs of Life. As far as Poison compilation records go, 86-96 is a much better record.

The Best!,
A Kid's Review

I did not even know this album had been released until i saw it in my local music store.Being a huge fan of all hair metal,I immediatly bought it.When I took it home and began to listen, I couldn't believe what I was hearing. It is heavy, yet bluesy, sad, but sometimes happy. The best songs are 'Be The One','Good Love', and 'Poor Boy Blues'.If you like hard rock and hair metal, buy this album.

I like the music more on every listen.,

The first time I listened to this cd I remembered all of the songs I really liked in the years gone by. The great thing about this cd is that not all of the songs were huge hits since grunge squashed the metal genre. The blues songs I really like, just the right amount of Hair metal and blues mix. I think I actually like this cd more now than I would have in the late 80s or early 90s, since at that time I was more into heavier metal, but the hooks are great and the music jams nicely.
If you love Hair Metal and you like Blues then this cd is a good addition to your collection. Heck if you want to just download a few of your favorites from amazon and transport your self to younger days then this will do nicely. Rock on.

Songs that shine,

It's like each song is given it's own spotlight. Saying, "Here, this song is one of the Best of Ballads and Blues." I was able to enjoy the songs in a different light (pardon the pun w/ my review title). Hearing "Only Time Will Tell" on Swallow This Live, I really did not know how to respond to it. Hearing it on this album put it into a better context for me. I understood that it is supposed to be a ballad. The biggest treat for me will take a moment to explain. After C.C. and Richie both left Poison, I was in college for a few more years & found it difficult to keep up on what the band was doing. So...years later when I bought this "Best of" album, I heard songs that were new to me! I did not know "The Last Song," "Let me Be The One" or "Lay Your Body Down." Basically the new ones for me were any that were w/Blues Saraceno and C.C. (post-Blues Saraceno). The other big treat for me is a CD version of "Something to Believe In- acoustic w/ alternate lyrics." Up until then, I had a cassette only of the song (from side B of one of Flesh & Blood's cassette singles).
Overall, I am thankful to be able to get to know these songs apart from their respective studio albums.

Pick up this CD ASAP!!!! The following tracks are worth every penny you will spend getting this CD!
5) Good Love 7) Until you suffer some (fire and ice) 8) Be the one 9) Life Loves a Tragedy 10) Only Time will tell 14) The Last Song On this CD it features some songs where Richie Kotzen took CC's place, takes a little getting used to the difference but he wasn't a bad addition..still no one plays quite the same as CC! |
