Short Review, November 25, 2001

This review is from: Best Band in the Land (Audio CD)
The first minute of the opening track on this CD sums up CCS at it's best. Pounding drums, rattling percussion and a thumping bass are overlaid with a boogie-woogie piano and a fuzzed up guitar. The horn section blasts out counterpoint charts and then, after this long rollicking introduction, Alexis Korner spits out a sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek lyric about "The high school hooker was once a good looker".
CCS (Collective Consciousness Society) made three albums in the early seventies (all now available on CD). The band plays a mix of originals and old rock chestnuts. The covers go between a tad cheesy ("Lola") and rock solid ("Shakin' All Over"). The originals, for the most part, shine.
The CD contains 2 excellent singles, "Band Played the Boogie" and "Hurricane Coming".
If you like horn driven rock played by the cream of session musicians you might want to buy a CCS CD (I bought 'em all).
This is a good place to start.

this CD are record on late 70's, but listen how horns goes on like train in jungle. This is "hot stuff" and time has not eaten any bite from sound.
