One of the great dancehall artists,
By B. Carreras "el semental" (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Best of Beenie Man (Audio CD)
I would actually venture to say that Beenie Man is the best Jamaican dancehall artist. The beats and melodies on this CD are infectious, I absolutely can not get some of these lyrics out of my head. There are only 3 songs on this whole CD that I skip over which is why I gave it a 4 instead of 5. Yes, there are homophobic lyrics which don't reflect my personal views on homosexuality. However, to all those people giving this CD one star because of a line or 2 in a couple of songs, what gives you the right to tell someone what they can write about and say? If you don't like it: DON'T LISTEN. Don't act like you're out to save the world from free expression.

The definitive dancehall lesson,
By Mike Stand (NY, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Best of Beenie Man (Audio CD)
The Best of Beenie Man collects the anthems that made him known as King of the Dancehall starting from his most prolific era the 1990s. Truly a lesson in the fundamentals of dancehall reggae

Zim Zimmer,

This review is from: Best of Beenie Man (Audio CD)
A diverse collection of the hits that propelled Beenie Man to the top of the Jamaican Dancehall Scene, USA radio and the World. Beenie man's songs demonstrate his continued mixing of reggae with various forms of music, Country & Western, R&B, Rap, Hip Hop,always holding onto his unique Jamaican delivery. The song's start with the hits from "The Docter" and continue to his Island Records, album "Blessed". My favorites are "Who am I" the first Reggae song to enter Billboard's Top Ten in it's original form, "Foundation" produced by Sly and Robbie, "Romie" with it's deep baseline on the "Punany" Rhythm, "Healing" featuring Lady Saw which is one of the best male female duets in Dancehall music to date, "Slam", "Murderer" "Ole Dawg".... pretty much all are excellent tracks. Filled with controversy and fun. A must have for Reggae and specifically Dancehall Lovers.
