Original Columbia BEST OF Is Great!, August 14, 2008

This contains 10 ORIGINAL recordings that Billy Joe Royal scored big with for Columbia Records from 1965-1970. It has his biggest hits like DOWN IN THE BOONDOCKS, I KNEW YOU WHEN, CHERRY HILL PARK, HUSH, and TULSA, among others. It also has some rarities like his original version of I NEVER PROMISED YOU A ROSE GARDEN , which is faster than the Lynn Anderson hit version years later. Also has a great rockin' cover of Paul McCartney's EVERY NIGHT. This CD on Columbia Special Products, along with the Taragon release THE VERY BEST OF or GREATEST HITS on Columbia all contain the original versions . The most complete is THE VERY BEST OF, but this set is great for the cost conscious consumer who wants the basic hits. Just don't buy a cheap budget re-recorded versions CD that he did later on. Those are plentiful, and they don't contain the original hits as he did them from 1965-1970.
