Editorial Reviews

The songs hat make up this release were taken from five of Bizzy Bone's past solo albums. This is Bizzy's first Best Of release and features the most comprehensive collection of Bizzy Bone hits to date. With this album you'll relish the rapid flow, laid-back singing and soul-searching lyrics that made you a Bizzy fan in the first place.

4.0 out of 5 stars A worthy collection, August 11, 2007

This review is from: Best of Bizzy Bone (Audio CD)
Bizzy Bone's first best-of compilation comes in the summer of 2007, released by the Real Talk label which distributed his last two solo albums. Music on this compilation is drawn from 1998's Heaven'z Movie, 2001's The Gift, and 2006's The Story and The Midwest Cowboy. His albums Alpha and Omega, Speaking In Tongues, and Thugs Revenge are not represented, nor are any of his music as a member of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Bone Brothers. Although the two previously unreleased tracks are a nice added bonus, I personally have a little beef with this tracklist; at only twelve tracks, they definitely had room to chronicle his career better and chose not to. It's no coincidence that the two Real Talk albums are the ones best represented, but these also provide highlights in the collection. I would also have liked to see some music from his underground releases like his excellent 2005 disc "The Beginning and the End," and I think that his earlier albums are underrepresented on this compilation.

Despite my beefs with the tracklist, this album is worth a purchase for any new listener or casual fan who has yet to own most of his albums. He's got a sprawling and intimidating discography, and this ought to be a good starting point or just something to own for to non die-hards. Most of this disc accurately portrays exactly what a compelling artist Bizzy Bone is on the solo tip. At his best, Bizzy Bone is a truly captivating, moving, and emotional rapper. Through his unique high-pitched flow and often intense subject matter, Bizzy Bone has honestly made some of the most touching rap music I've heard. In my life, only 2Pac rivals the dramatic emotion I've experienced in listening to hip hop. His solo classics like "Nobody Can Stop Me" and "Thugz Cry" portray his earlier work, which mirrored a more personal Bone Thugs-N-Harmony sound, but my favorite tracks are the more recent ones. "Thugs Need Love Too," "When I See," and "Maybe You Can Hold Me" were some of my absolute favorite songs of the last few years, and these were completely unheralded classics. The tugging emotion and phenomenal production on these songs made them my favorites, his performance is excellent on each.

Bizzy has at least three more releases scheduled for the next few months, so soon this release will become obsolete as his discography will be even larger than it already is. In the meantime, "The Best of Bizzy Bone" is a solid release chronicling the first ten years of his solo career. It doesn't cover all the bases or all his releases like I wish it would, but I cannot deny the quality of the music on this disc.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bizzy Bone Hits??? Not even close!!, August 10, 2007

This review is from: Best of Bizzy Bone (Audio CD)
I have been a full supporter of Bizzy Bone's solo career for years, and I still am. But to call this the "Best Of Bizzy Bone" is an insult. Sure, they included a couple of tracks from his best release "Heaven'z Movie", and the twice released "Fried Day", but thats it. The rest of the tracks are from his last few, un-promoted albums released on Real Talk Entertainment. This company keeps re-using these same tracks over and over to get as much money from Bizzy Bone fans as they can. I am not saying I dont like these tracks, but they are not his "Best" as they claim. They completely skipped tracks from 3 of his best albums (The Gift,Alpha and Omega, Beginning and End). If you really want to hear the best of Bizzy, go buy Heaven'z Movie, The Gift, Alpha & Omega, and Beginning & The End. Other than that, just wait till this fall when he releases his new major label album "A Song For You" on Virgin Records.
