3.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, Good, OK, and Boring.
I liked three of these four books.
"Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret"-It was written in a bright, conversational way. Blume writes the way a twelve-year-old girl would and while the book is only about growing up and religion, with much easier issues than the other books, it doesn't affect the value of this story at all.
"Blubber"-Definitely a favourite...

5.0 out of 5 stars 4 Great Stories with a Message, May 31, 2005
This review is from: Best of Blume: Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret/Blubber/Iggie's House/Starring Sally J. Freedman As Herself (Paperback)
I don't even remember if it was 40 or 45 years ago when I first started reading Judy Blume's books but I do remember the stories always seemed to touch on a subject I could relate to as a child. I didn't even hestitate or have to think twice about buying them for my son when he reached the 3rd grade. There are times when parents can't convince their child that other kids have the same problems they do and that's where Blume's stories can help. She reaches out to kids on all the biggies; divorce, religion, obesity, popularity, etc. and she does so in a light hearted manner, nothing too heavy.

As for P. D. Paula and all of the people who found her review helpful; the titles of the books in the set are right there after the words Best of Blume.

I read these books when I was growing up and was excited to come across them for my own daughter. My daughter, unlike me, does not enjoy reading however, she has read these books in record time! Another plus is that they are all on the "AR" lists that many schools require their students to read from. My daughter is 10 and they are all within the reading levels for the 4th -6th grades. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars X-mas Gift, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Best of Blume: Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret/Blubber/Iggie's House/Starring Sally J. Freedman As Herself (Paperback)
I bought this gift for my niece for Christmas. She is an avid reader and has read the Junie B. Jones series and Magic Tree House series. Having read July Blume as a girl, I thought she would embrace these books as well. It was true, on X-mas night, she already was reading away. I am looking into adding other Judy Blume books to her personal library.

I thought that Judy Blume is a great writer, I loved her style, and the first time I read one of her books was: "Dear God, it's me margaret" Judy put into words all the stuff that some parents find hard to discuss with their kids. Positive note and tone in the boook, realistic, and about loving yourself and loving life, those are the messages I would want my children to carry with them. I loved this boxed set, and so does my daughter.

5.0 out of 5 stars great boxset of judy blume for the pre-adolescent girl!, January 6, 2009
This review is from: Best of Blume: Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret/Blubber/Iggie's House/Starring Sally J. Freedman As Herself (Paperback)
Obviously, Judy Blume has tons of books out that are for both young girls and boys as well as some books for older girls but this is a PERFECT boxset for a girl aged 9-13. I got it for my 12-year-old cousin for Christmas and she's read 3 of the 4 books already...and it's only 2 weeks after Christmas!

5.0 out of 5 stars Judy Blume wins over another generation of readers!, January 2, 2012

This review is from: Best of Blume: Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret/Blubber/Iggie's House/Starring Sally J. Freedman As Herself (Paperback)
We purchased this collection of Judy Blume favorites for our grand daughter for Hannukah this year. Although she has more sophisticated e-products than any other 8 year old I know, she could not wait to start reading a BOOK! It was a wonderful feeling to watch the next generation of Judy Blume fans emerge in the eyes of our beautiful little girl. Blume's work is timeless and universal. If you want your children to read, buy them good books!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Stories, December 8, 2011
This review is from: Best of Blume: Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret/Blubber/Iggie's House/Starring Sally J. Freedman As Herself (Paperback)
I remember reading these books over and over when I was younger. I buy my children books every year at Christmas and bought this set for my daughter last year. I have to say it was well worth it. She does not enjoy reading but she couldn't put these down and even asked me if there were more. Another plus is they are considered AR books so she gets credit for reading books she truly enjoys.

3.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, Good, OK, and Boring., August 29, 2011
This review is from: Best of Blume: Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret/Blubber/Iggie's House/Starring Sally J. Freedman As Herself (Paperback)
I liked three of these four books.
"Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret"-It was written in a bright, conversational way. Blume writes the way a twelve-year-old girl would and while the book is only about growing up and religion, with much easier issues than the other books, it doesn't affect the value of this story at all.
"Blubber"-Definitely a favourite. This book deals with bullying. The protagonist, Jill, isn't exactly endearing, but this may have been just to show the realistic bystander that backs up the powerful people. But you can still feel happy for her when she sticks up for herself.
"Iggie's House"-This deals with racism and is shorter. Also less interesting, but worth a read.
"Starring Sally J. Freedman As Herself"-I swear, I have tried to read this more than once. I haven't been able to get past the first twenty pages. Therefore, I can't give a full review, but I found it too boring to continue.
Still, I advise you to get these books, or at least the first two separately.
