5.0 out of 5 stars We Finally Know His Name!
Normally, I'd say this just one of umpteen "Best of" CDs chronicling the many James Bond title songs. However, what makes this collection stand out is the inclusion of 'You Know My Name', the theme to 'Casino Royale', marking the first time the song has appeared on a Bond soundtrack. So, if you want all the title songs to every James Bond picture from Dr. No to Casino...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good way to get the real deal
I bought this album for the Sheryl Crow song. I did find others I liked, though. If you absolutely have to have the theatrical version of Bond movie themes, this is a good way to get them.

This album has all the theme songs to the James Bond films ever made--except for "Another Way to Die" by Jack White and Alicia Keys from the recent Bond film "Quantum of Solace;" but even without this particular track this CD is still a good one. The songs all sound terrific; they haven't aged one bit. In addition, the quality of the sound couldn't be better and this is a desirable CD for fans of the James Bond spy thrillers.

There's not a single dud in the bunch; each song showcases fantastic talent. John Barry's orchestra plays the James Bond theme with panache; it's a very full musical arrangement and I like that a lot. Matt Monro does a splendid job delivering "From Russia with Love;" he makes this shine with his crooner voice and the music makes good use of the strings and the percussion. Of course, Shirley Bassey's "Goldfinger" was a big hit for her in addition to making an excellent movie theme; Shirley never lets go of a single superfluous note and I love it! Other amazing tunes would include Tom Jones' "Thunderball;" Nancy Sinatra's "You Only Live Twice" which she performs faultlessly; Shirley Bassey's "Diamonds Are Forever" which has her squarely in the spotlight; Paul McCartney And Wings' "Live and Let Die" which is absolutely electric, to say the least; Carly Simon's classic "Nobody Does It Better;" Sheena Easton's "For Your Eyes Only" which she delivers very passionately; Duran Duran's "A View To A Kill" with that killer beat; Gladys Knight's sublime "License to Kill" which she handles like a pro even with all those complex tempo and key changes; Tina Turner's "Goldeneye;" "Tomorrow Never Dies" which gets the royal treatment by the great Sheryl Crow who was born to sing ballads like this one; k.d. lang's "Surrender;" the stunning "The World Is Not Enough" by Garbage; Madonna's "Die Another Day;" and "The James Bond Theme" by John Arnold. There's even "You Know My Name" by Chris Cornell from the movie "Casino Royale!"

Overall, if you want a comprehensive CD of the theme songs from the James Bond movies, this is a pretty good choice although you should keep in mind that this does not include "Another Way to Die" from "Quantum of Solace." In addition, people who enjoy outstanding music in general may also want to get this for their collections; the music is from several decades' worth of movies and there's not a single bad song on the album.

5.0 out of 5 stars All the good Bond songs, January 7, 2009
This review is from: Best Of Bond... James Bond, The (CD) (Audio CD)
The most memorable thing about James Bond movies are the theme songs. Some of the top stars in the music business have contributed songs to the James Bond movie soundtracks. Capital records has released "The Best of Bond...James Bond." The 23 track compact disc features all of the most memorable James Bond theme songs. The CD opens up with the James Bond theme performed by the John Barry Orchestra. If you are a fan of the James Bond movies you will certainly have your own favorite theme song. Featured on the CD are the songs "For Your Eyes Only," by Sheena Easton, "A View To A Kill," by Duran Duran, "Live and Let Die," by Paul McCartney and Wings, "Die Another Day," by Madonna and "Nobody Does It Better," by Carly Simon among other James Bond theme songs. "The Best of Bond...James Bond" is a great way to own all of the James Bond theme songs in one setting. As an added bonus the CD features the John Arnold version of the James Bond theme which was previously unreleased.

This is the real deal. When I first looked for Bond theme songs all I seemed to find were orchestral versions. This CD is like unearthing a time capsule, each song bringing back a flood of memories from the various points in my life. Highly recommended (even if you aren't a Bond fanatic, I like Bond movies and all, but not more than any other genre of films).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great James Bond Music, June 16, 2009
This review is from: Best Of Bond... James Bond, The (CD) (Audio CD)
This is really very straight forward. The CD has the title track to every James Bond movie through the ones staring Pierce Bronson. They are all the originals and no do-overs by other artists. They are in Chronological order as to the sequence the movies were made as well. So bottom line, If you like the James Bond title songs or are a collecter of James Bond things, this is a must have CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great James Bond musical history, May 27, 2009
This review is from: Best Of Bond... James Bond, The (CD) (Audio CD)
I think what I love the most about this CD is that it runs in chronological order and takes you on a journey from the early 60's up to the current time.

I was a little young when James Bond movies were first created, but I have seen nearly all of the early movies in reruns. I'm particularly fond of those made in the 60's and early 70's and listening to this CD brings back great memories of watching James Bond on the ABC Sunday Night Movie on a hot summer night.

My absolute favorite is the theme from "You Only Live Twice". The strings at the beginning really set the tone for the song and Nancy Sinatra did a beautiful job singing it. I also like "Moonraker" by Shirley Bassey.

The creators of these films and John Barry have done an excellent job through the years of keeping the music fresh and even reverting back to the 60's sounds once in awhile in the later films.

If you are a fan of James Bond movies, you will love this CD and must own it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice collection of the Bond movie themes, all-in-one-place, February 27, 2009
This review is from: Best Of Bond... James Bond, The (CD) (Audio CD)
This is a pretty nice collection, with good sound, of all the James Bond theme songs. Listening to them back-to-back-to-back makes a couple of them, such as the VERY-overplayed-on-classic-radio "Live and Let Die", sound fresh again, in the context of hearing all the themes in one place, in order. Some other hilights, in my opinion, are the Carly Simon and Louis Armstrong cuts. Shirley Bassey's cuts are some nice stuff, and the Duran Duran one (for "View to a Kill") i think has aged pretty well, probably better than you'd think. But some themes, like Rita Coolidge's "All Time High" and "A-Ha"'s "The Living Daylights", haven't aged so well and lack energy, and may actually make you wonder what the films' producers were thinking at the time when these were commissioned. THis disc includes the Chris Cornell one for "Casino Royale" but NOT the Jack White/Alicia Keys one (which i think came out around this disc's release and probably couldn't be licensed for inclusion). Overall, a great value to be able to get most of these themes all in one nice package, and i'd have to think any casual-to-serious Bond fan would enjoy this disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars James Bond Theme Songs, October 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Best Of Bond... James Bond, The (CD) (Audio CD)
This is a great collection of all the James Bond theme songs, both old and new, as performed by the original artists. The collection is arranged in chronological order, and for those of us who saw the original movies in the early 60's (I was just a mere child,) good memories were brought to mind. A great collection and a great value.
