5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Sleep On This Album!
Best of Both Worlds by Davina is one of the most slept on albums of the past five years. Davina's raspy yet smooth vocals flow over jazzy-funky-cool tracks that are sure to set any mood. This is an album that will have your head bobbin' from start to finish. Standout tracks include Come Over to My Place, So Good, Give Me Love and her remake of I Can't Help It that puts a...

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid Debut 10 Years Ago
Davina came out with this joint in 1998. It's now 2008 and I let a buddy of mine listen to this, and she's a music reviewer for several esteemed publications and she dug it. She said a friend had it back in the day, so she remembered a couple of radio hits, but nothing more.

Meanwhile I've been grooving to this solid debut CD for ten years. Just about every...

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Sleep On This Album!, November 3, 2001
This review is from: Best of Both Worlds (Audio CD)
Best of Both Worlds by Davina is one of the most slept on albums of the past five years. Davina's raspy yet smooth vocals flow over jazzy-funky-cool tracks that are sure to set any mood. This is an album that will have your head bobbin' from start to finish. Standout tracks include Come Over to My Place, So Good, Give Me Love and her remake of I Can't Help It that puts a funky spin on the old Michael Jackson classic. This album came out in 1998, and we haven't heard from Davina since, but regardless she has a fan for life in me. If you know like I know, you'll wake up and add this album to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Davina! mellow smooth, December 9, 2003
This review is from: Best of Both Worlds (Audio CD)
Definately feeling Davina. It began with the Hoodlum soundtrack which introduced me to "So Good." I was feeling the beat and her natural style so I knew that I needed to get her Cd. It met my expectations and I was not let down. She sings of her pain, happiness, and hope. "After the Rain," is a slow song with a blues type feel to it. "My Cryin blues" is a semi fast paced song. You get a modern version of the old school Jazz instruments mixed with the blues, but its davina style. All the tracks are well written and well blended alongside her voice. However, the track entitled "Mercy," would have to be the best. This subtle love song has a relaxing Melody with soft drum beats in the back ground.
Her voice brings something different to the industry, for one she is not hitting extremely high notes that you can sometimes get tired of; but instead she is delivering a calm mellow style over her beats/instruments. Her style is appreciated!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Most Slept On Artist (and I'm getting sick of it), February 7, 2000
This review is from: Best of Both Worlds (Audio CD)
I fill radio stations DJ's should be hung from there broadcast towers for not giving this girl the airplay she deserves. This is one of first R&B artist that I enjoyed the entire CD even the video and remixes. I put her in a catagory with Sade', Grenique, Badu, Maxwell....etc. Very jazz felt album, old school r&b feel. To many original good artist are not getting there props because of what wack radio DJ's think is good music. Davina, N'Dambi and other great artist are making great music and no one knows unless they make a video or have a underground radio station in there area. big up to Davina..... ONE

5.0 out of 5 stars Davina, DON'T GIVE UP!!!!!, September 5, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Best of Both Worlds (Audio CD)
This is a well thought out, polished CD, especially for a debut release. I have to agree with the other reviewers that it is "one that (unfortunately)got away from the masses". For anyone with good musical tastes, this CD is definitely a must have for the collection. It's a shame that she just wasn't marketed properly. All of the songs are good and she has a smooth and sultry sound that is all her own. I don't understand why she hasn't put out anything else. I hope that she hasn't given up. There is definitely an appreciative audience out there for her music and obvious talent.

Although this is a couple of years old, when you compare it to a lot of the garbage that is on the radio today (Mya "My love is like Wo" for example), you just shake your head and ask "Why?" If you can put out junk like that, why can't an artist like this and others like her have a chance to be heard. Davina, DON'T GIVE UP!!!!!

i love this album, its nice to listen to while you get ready to go to bed.i wouldn't really call this neo-soul.its more like smooth R&B with a jazz type flair to it.i REALLY love the song called come over to my place, nice & wet is tight aswell.i personaly liked this WHOLE album.some songs are so so,but overall gr8 cd.i actually don't think this album was slept on in my opinion.i actually heard the first single ALL the time on the box,and mtv.i heard come over to my place all the time on a local R&B & classic soul station.hopefully she'll make a follow up.

4.0 out of 5 stars A pity, one that got away...., January 11, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Best of Both Worlds (Audio CD)
Along with Adriana Evans' eponymous debut this is another album that got away from the masses. It's a pity as they both were signed to Loud which probably says a lot for Loud.

The album is a great listen, very smooth and polished. If you don't already own it go out and get it as it really ought to be in your collection. There are elements of Jazz which go down really well and a lovely rendition of I can't help it. Get if b4 it's too late.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Kept Secret, April 1, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Best of Both Worlds (Audio CD)
This is a CD you can let ride ALL the way through and enjoy every cut. I don't understand why her CD has been slept on. It is much better than the (...) they play on the radio 1,000 times a day by far. Oh well, I have her CD and that's all that matters to me. If you like originality, this is definitely one you should pick up.

5.0 out of 5 stars STOP SLEEPIN', September 19, 2006
This review is from: Best of Both Worlds (Audio CD)
This is definitely a cd that you would love to have in your collection. I had to replace it because it was destroyed in New Orleans. I looked for it in all the music stores. I had to have it again. Wonderful music. By the way, where is Davina? She needs to drop another one.
