Good, but Dazz fault is unforgivable,

Tha album is good with most of the favorite Brick classics. Indeed, Dazz is the single version, plenty of room on the CD for both. Shame on Sony Music. If you want the full length version, check out Rhino's Millenium Funk Party CD. Full length Dazz, better source tape and/or mastering + 19 other well selected funk tunes.

Have you ever heard a song that finds its way into your head, going round and round and round - but you can't place the title of it, or the group ? So it was with me, and "Dazz", put out by a group called "Brick" in the 70s. Imagine my delight when I heard a similar track on my XM car radio, which displays the title and group of every song played. A little research, and, voila, I had found the origin of that song which was playing in my memory.....but, alas, the song in my memory was approximately 15 minutes long, with absolutely tremendous flute and bass solo's. I ordered the "Best of Brick".....imagine my disappointment when it turned out to be the 3-minute version of the song. Subsequent research on the web, and Amazon, indicates that there is currently NO cd with the long track of Dazz. A real shame. If you're looking for the long version of Dazz, don't waste your money on this CD.

yes i was sad by the fact dazz is less in time and what about sweat till you get wet from 81? that was one of ray parker jr's last great funky jams.but this disc will do better than nothing at all.another tight group from back in the day who had grooves for days.

I found this to be a good sample of their wares. Now, just give us the albums, and we'd be able to jam to their tunes at their full length! The versions on this album are just a little "short." Five stars for the music, but three stars for the disc!!

Regarding full-length "Dazz" by Brick,

I bought "Old School - Vol. 2" specifically to get the full-length version of Dazz by Brick, among other songs. I was disappointed and angry that it was the 5 min. radio version. After reading your reviews here, I'm glad I didn't choose to get the Best of Brick. Though I enjoy other songs by Brick, Dazz is my all-time favorite. Today I found the long version on the "Disco Super Hits" CD. Though I'm not crazy about other songs on this CD it's worth the money. I will be playing my Dazz over and over with my sun-roof open, a smile on my face, and the wind blowing free in my hair! :-)

Excellent & definitely "Old School". I played it at our family reunion and everybody stopped what they were doing and got into it!

The Cd itself seems to be pretty good with the hits of Brick but how do you not produce a compilation like this without "Dazz" in it's full length? I should hope that whoever put this one together was on drugs or something so that they would have a legitimate excuse for not doing it especially when there was plenty of room. Without the flute solo in "Dazz", it has no pizzazz.

Best of Brick Does Not Include It's Best,

I have been a fan of Brick since their breakout song "DAZZ" in 1976. I can remember, as a teenager, being mesmorized by the bass solo on the long version of this song. Naturally that song is on "Best of Brick" as well it should be. But to me their are some obvious omissions that any real Brick fan would notice. Two very fine instrumentals, "Southern Sunset," from their first album, and "The Happening," from their final album, "Summer Heat" are excluded. In fact, the title song of their final album along with "Sweat(Till U Get Wet)," should have been included. Their are several ballads on "Best of Brick," which does'nt make sense to me because Brick was never known for its slow songs. These omissions are the only reasons preventing me from giving this album five stars.

Very good!,

I like Brick's style, they are funk and soul. I think they are an underrated group, that doesn't get a lot of mention, as far as 70's soul/funk groups go. I must admit my personal favorite of theirs' is "Dazz" and I see that a lot of people are unhappy with the fact that it's not the full length version. I think this version is good enough. I've never been a big fan of the extended funk/disco versions of songs, because after about 10 min., or so it becomes monotonous. The other songs are very good, too. A must for 70's soul/funk lovers.
