4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Best Of, January 2, 2006
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
Britny Fox were a hair band that had it all: an excellent guitarist, raspy voiced singer, and a hit song in Girlschool. This collection only spans their first two album with orignal singer, "Dizzy" Dean Davidson. Their first album is considered a hair metal classic. The songs "Girlschool", "Long Way To Love", and "Save The Weak" all rock hard. This collection also include their two cover songs "Gudbye T'Jane" by Slade, and "Hair of the Dog" by Nazareth, both of which are excellent. This disc is also enhanced so if you pop it into you computer you can see a live video of "Long Way To Love" and the music video for "Girlschool". Not bad for $10.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Late 80's/Early 90's Glam Metal, December 3, 2003
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
Britny Fox was a really talented band that had the misfortune of being categorized as a "hairband." I always viewed the term hair band to be applied to hopeless wannabes that had a lot of hair and very little talent. This band in my opinion didn't fall into that category.

While the band currently has a new vocalist (Tommy Paris), original singer Dean Davidson is on all of these tracks, all of which were culled from the band's self titled debut and second album, "Boys in Heat;" both of which stand very well on their own.

Almost every track on the album is great rock and roll. My particular favorites are "In Motion," "Girlschool," "She's So Lonely," and "Long Way to Love". Two cover songs are on the album -- Slade's "Gudbye to Jane" and Nazareth's "Hair of the Dog." "Dream On" is their own original -- not the one made famous by Aerosmith. But when you name a song after a classic one like that... what do you expect. Nevertheless, Britny Fox's "Dream On" is still a pretty good track.

To their credit, the band has carried on and has released several other albums: "Bite Down Hard" (1991), "Long Way to LIVE" (2001), and "Springhead Motorshark" (2003).

Too bad Britny Fox came when they did during the advent of Grunge. They never had a chance as their style of music and image was on the way out as far as popular culture was concerned. But judging from what's "popular" in music today, I'll stick with what's good -- stuff like this.

4.0 out of 5 stars A highly underrated rock band, July 11, 2003

yeah, yeah, yeah... they've been called poseurs, annoying, a "second rate Cinderella," but one cannot deny that Britny Fox recorded catchy rock songs during their time(unless one simply does not like rock and roll). Long before bands started brooding and singing about the depressing state of affairs on the news, bands like BF sang about chicks, parties, nightlife, and good ol' rock and roll (God, I miss the 80s)!!! This CD includes a great compilation of BF's songs, and it will fit nicely in anyone's rock collection. It would be great to see this act tour with Poison or Warrant sometime soon!
