Britny Fox were a hair band that had it all: an excellent guitarist, raspy voiced singer, and a hit song in Girlschool. This collection only spans their first two album with orignal singer, "Dizzy" Dean Davidson. Their first album is considered a hair metal classic. 3.0 out of 5 stars Is This Cinderella?
The only song I knew of Britny Fox before this cd was Girl School. After sampling the other songs, I started to wonder if it was the same singer as Cinderella. Maybe Cinderella should use this "dizzy" Dean on their next tour to avoid throat problems from Tom. Then, the music. Not quite as good, but still, it sounded like Cinderella. This appears to be a good album to own...

The songs "Girlschool", "Long Way To Love", and "Save The Weak" all rock hard. This collection also include their two cover songs "Gudbye T'Jane" by Slade, and "Hair of the Dog" by Nazareth, both of which are excellent. This disc is also enhanced so if you pop it into you computer you can see a live video of "Long Way To Love" and the music video for "Girlschool". Not bad for $10.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Late 80's/Early 90's Glam Metal, December 3, 2003
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
Britny Fox was a really talented band that had the misfortune of being categorized as a "hairband." I always viewed the term hair band to be applied to hopeless wannabes that had a lot of hair and very little talent. This band in my opinion didn't fall into that category.

While the band currently has a new vocalist (Tommy Paris), original singer Dean Davidson is on all of these tracks, all of which were culled from the band's self titled debut and second album, "Boys in Heat;" both of which stand very well on their own.

Almost every track on the album is great rock and roll. My particular favorites are "In Motion," "Girlschool," "She's So Lonely," and "Long Way to Love". Two cover songs are on the album -- Slade's "Gudbye to Jane" and Nazareth's "Hair of the Dog." "Dream On" is their own original -- not the one made famous by Aerosmith. But when you name a song after a classic one like that... what do you expect. Nevertheless, Britny Fox's "Dream On" is still a pretty good track.

To their credit, the band has carried on and has released several other albums: "Bite Down Hard" (1991), "Long Way to LIVE" (2001), and "Springhead Motorshark" (2003).

Too bad Britny Fox came when they did during the advent of Grunge. They never had a chance as their style of music and image was on the way out as far as popular culture was concerned. But judging from what's "popular" in music today, I'll stick with what's good -- stuff like this.

4.0 out of 5 stars A highly underrated rock band, July 11, 2003

yeah, yeah, yeah... they've been called poseurs, annoying, a "second rate Cinderella," but one cannot deny that Britny Fox recorded catchy rock songs during their time(unless one simply does not like rock and roll). Long before bands started brooding and singing about the depressing state of affairs on the news, bands like BF sang about chicks, parties, nightlife, and good ol' rock and roll (God, I miss the 80s)!!! This CD includes a great compilation of BF's songs, and it will fit nicely in anyone's rock collection. It would be great to see this act tour with Poison or Warrant sometime soon!

4.0 out of 5 stars Just call it ROCK, August 3, 2006
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
There is a good reason for the CINDERELLA reference to the band's sound...

The guitarist was a founding member of Cinderella, but before the band was signed, they had to disown Mr Mike. Jeff LaBar was a friend of studio exec, and a fitting replacement. No major loss or gain either way.

Guitarist Mike simply reformed another band; banged out his steady, consistent, balls-on hard rocking style; not to mention finding a comparable singer to Mr Kiefer...

The result is the music world did not suffer. We, the fans, got two fantastic rocking outfits producing music during the only period where good, consistent music was released.

Grunge may have killed AOR radioplay, but the majority of these bands continued on (and several still do).

Britny Fox, hair band or otherwise, still belted out fantastic music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Britney Fox - 'The Best Of .....' (Sony), January 2, 2006
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
I don't care WHAT anyone says, Britny Fox IS in fact like a Cinderella wanna be. That's isn't necessarily a bad thing, for I saw the band twice back in the day and always wanted to check them out again. This 'Best Of' compilation looks to be pulled from their first two albums, that were good '80's metal. Tunes I liked the best were "Girlschool" (love the old Mtv video), "Long Way To Love" (reminds me SO much of Aerosmith), "In Motion", a cover of Slade's "Gudbye T' Jane" and "Standing In The Shadows". A couple of live tunes were tagged on to lure both old and new fans, I'm sure. A should-have.

This is simply a great album with a lot of great tunes on it. No rock collection can be considered complete without this album. These guys really know how to play, and the songs still sound great, even today!

Maybe Cinderella should use this "dizzy" Dean on their next tour to avoid throat problems from Tom. Then, the music. Not quite as good, but still, it sounded like Cinderella. This appears to be a good album to own just for those reasons alone. But the music on this collection is good. The songs are good. Too bad on their timing. A must have? I don't think so. But it's definatly a great addition.

4.0 out of 5 stars AC/DC Influenced Hard Rock!, May 31, 2004

Brity Fox was one of the many unsung hair metal bands from the late 1980's. They had everything that their more successfull contemporaries had, it's just that they came at the wrong time, they not 'commercial' enough for the mainstream audience, or something smelling lke that. Britny Fox had talent, they had leather and lipstick, but they never really hit it big. This is a fantastic collection, though. Britny Fox was a very AC/DC influenced band, as they showcased on such songs as 'Long Way To Love, 'Girlschool', and 'Standing In The Shadows. Although I could do without the singer's voice, this collection stands as proof that just because a band never hit it big doesn't mean they are not talented. Some of the best songs are the aforementioned 3, the Slade cover Gudbuy T'Jane, and Dream On(not the Aerosmith song of the same name).
