5.0 out of 5 stars Superb compilation of his own recordings!
Burt Bacharach, whose songs in their hit versions were generally performed by other artists, also released several albums under his own name. Spanning the second half of the 60's and the early 70's, these albums contained particularly sophisticated, often lushly orchestrated versions of his songs. Some versions were instrumental, some contained vocals by others, and some...

1.0 out of 5 stars May confirm your worst impressions
In this collection of mostly instrumental-orchestral covers of his own songs, Burt Bacharach elevates Hal David's lyrics by omission, makes Dionne Warwick look like an interpretive genius, and turns himself into a muzak machine. If you're looking to find out why Bacharach has been granted songwriting deification by some of today's top recording artists, try the original...

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb compilation of his own recordings!, April 30, 2004
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
Burt Bacharach, whose songs in their hit versions were generally performed by other artists, also released several albums under his own name. Spanning the second half of the 60's and the early 70's, these albums contained particularly sophisticated, often lushly orchestrated versions of his songs. Some versions were instrumental, some contained vocals by others, and some featured Bacharach's own, often exemplary vocals.

This collection contains twenty of his very best songs in recordings taken from these albums released under his own name. A particular highlight is Burt's own vocal version of "Make it easy on yourself", but this entire compilation is a delight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Burt Bacharach at his best!, January 2, 2007
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
Even when this British "The Best Of" collection does not include some of his best tunes (i.e. the amazing choral work BB made in "South American Getaway" from the "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" film soundtrack), it makes a worthy acquisition for anyone who wants to enjoy a purely instrumental work of this great composer and musician.

A piece of real nostalgic, very good contemporary American music!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must buy for Bacharach lovers, September 4, 1999

This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
This is a CHOICE collection of Bacharach arrangements. To listen to this collection is like looking into a fine-tuned Rolex. This collection exposes him as a performer of the 1st rank as well as a composer/arranger. All the cuts on this album are good
