I discovered John Callahan many years ago by chance, and was immediately charmed by his irreverent sense of humor. Then I recently happened to be in a museum that featured a small exhibit of his cartoons and was prompted to buy this book. Many are initially simply shocked by the way he makes fun of people with disabilities (among others), until they realize that he is one himself. This gives him not only license to do what other humorists wouldn't dare doing, but to explore aspects of the human condition that are precluded to mainstream cartoonists and comics. This collection features some of Callahan's best, and is delightful to read on the Kindle app for the iPad, for instance. It would be silly for me to go on talking about something that really needs to be seen to be appreciated. Go on and enjoy the weird world of John Callahan.

Outrageous and correct,

Callahan is outrageously funny and politically incorrect. His work nails many current social issues on the head, especially our continuing tendency to patronize people with disabilities. But beware, these cartoons makes the Simpson's or South Park look like Sunday school humor. Don't eat or drink anything when you read this or you'll be wearing it by the 4th cartoon.

Well, while he may not get far on foot, he gets to the stars on pen and paper!

Dark and hilarious,

If you have a twisted sense of humor and are not familiar with John Callahan's work, buy this immediately! His cartoons can momentarily shock you with their audacity, followed immediately by laughter and admiration. As a quadriplegic, Callahan managed to find dark humor in the inconveniences of disabilities, nor did he consider any other 'difficult' topic off-limits. The man was fearless.
"Mommy! Mommy! Can we kill the puppies?" If you're wondering how that can be turned into a hilarious cartoon caption, check out the late, great John Callahan.

I received a DVD of a Callahan based show in Canada. The DVD was wonderfully politically incorrect!
