4.0 out of 5 stars Other reviewers are off the mark
I got this for Lily was here. But some of the other material grew on me. There's a couple of funky jazz masterpieces on here. I really dig the whole CD now. But warning, her song Lily was here is kind of unique, her other stuff is not the same kind of ethereal masterpiece. I don't know or care whether she plays sax as well as other top performers...

2.0 out of 5 stars It's NOT the Best of Candy
Sorry to write that this album was disappointing. It was not in the true form of Candy doing her thang! I was expecting great jazz/funk/fusion as Candy can do so well, but instead I got mediocre stuff, just ramblings to me. The title is deceptive because it certainly was not the Best of Candy Dulfer! Hope the next Candy CD I buy will be better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Candy is Dandy!!, October 15, 2009

I just revived this CD of Candy Dulfer, The Best Of. I have got to say; I don't know why I waited so long to purchase one of her albums. I have always know of her "great" talent, but had always gone with my standard picks, {Bob James, Fourplay, Four80east, Down to the Bone; etc}. Now I am sorry that I waited so long. I listen to this album last night and was so amazed at the range she can carry. Note-able; "Lily Was Here"; I heard this cut on the radio several years ago and had forgotten how "haunting" the song really was. I found my self go back 3-4 different times - just could not the song out of my head. THE BEAT GO'S ON; lol. Anyway, cuts like "Mister Marvin", "So What", and "Jamming"; had me moving in my chair. I plan on buying more music from Candy and hope for the same type of results. I must say that I would rank her playing ability with the likes of Dave Koz, Richard Elliot, and even Coaltrain. I would recommend this to any one looking for an intro to jazz, to check out the range of work and just sit back and JAM!!

Candy's sax is so bold and refreshing, it's a very uplifting CD to listen to. I bought two of hers, and love them both!

5.0 out of 5 stars Talent and looks!!, September 4, 1999

Candy Dulfer has got it all, talent and good looks which would make any guy feel like a love-sick teenager all over again if they listened to "Lily was here". I can't imagine how many hearts she's broken playing that hit at a live audience. I think it's probably one of the best jazz songs of all time.

Thanks to a friend, she turned me on to this saxy saxaphone player. This lady is HOTT. I plays this cd going home from work, Virginia to Maryland, and it gets me there jumping. THis lady has nothing but soul. My ears couldn't believe it. A couple songs I've heard before but didn't know it was her, [heck] I never even heard of her name but I tell you this. If she's ever in concert....I'll be there!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars watered down Jazz, January 25, 2000
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
she plays sax alright but the music is lacking personality.aside from Lily was here with Dave Stewart this disc is hurting for good material.she did some stuff with Prince but this disc as is the case with the rest of her music is that it's on the Kenny G tip.watered down Jazz with no feeling or emotion.

2.0 out of 5 stars A so-so recording by a so-s- artist, November 3, 2001

And then there is Barry. He says "Lily Was Here" may be the best jazz song of all-time. My, my... I guess that is the first "jazzy' type song he's every heard.

Candy Dulfer is just a pretty face who plays sax tolerably well and has a few good licks scattered here and there throughout her recordings. Kind of like seashells scattered on the world's beaches, there is a gem here and there for Candy, but she isn't going to be a long term player as one of the jazz giants.
