5.0 out of 5 stars Very funny
This book has some very funny moments, such as How to Accept the Nobel Peace Prize, What to Do if You Win the Lottery, and many others. My favorite one is about what to do if you're stranded on a desert island with Jennifer Lopez. These range from explaining that the reason you don't want to build a signal fire is it would damage the island's delicate ecology, to saying...

3.0 out of 5 stars Kinda funny, kinda not
While the parody aspect sounded funny, in reality it isn't what it could've been. It's about things that would never happen in a million years (like getting rear-ended by a drunken Bill Gates in traffic-what to do), written to look like the infamous 'Worst Case Scenario' books. I chuckled mildly a few times over the items, but nothing that really cracked me up. There are...

It's about things that would never happen in a million years (like getting rear-ended by a drunken Bill Gates in traffic-what to do), written to look like the infamous 'Worst Case Scenario' books. I chuckled mildly a few times over the items, but nothing that really cracked me up. There are things like 'What to do if you're stuck on a deserted island with J-Lo', and others along those lines. The laugh factor is medium, and it's a great bathroom book, but not something I will give as a gift again.

This book has some very funny moments, such as How to Accept the Nobel Peace Prize, What to Do if You Win the Lottery, and many others. My favorite one is about what to do if you're stranded on a desert island with Jennifer Lopez. These range from explaining that the reason you don't want to build a signal fire is it would damage the island's delicate ecology, to saying that you're basically a sensitive guy and it's okay with you to go slow with the relationship. There are many other scenarios in the book, and overall it's a lighthearted and funny piece of writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unpredictable and Unassuming, December 10, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Best-Case Scenario Handbook: A Parody (Paperback)
Despite what other reviewers have said, this book made me laugh out loud... A LOT! It has step by step solutions for how to accept an Academy Award, be a British monarch, request your three wishes from a genie, what to do when you win the lottery, and more. Complete with sketches for how to properly wave like a British monarch, hold your Oscar, rub a magic lamp lap, etc.

Tougue in cheek and very witty. Think positive and be prepared! These things could happen... right?

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as funny as I'd hoped, December 2, 2002

I was disappointed with this book. It just didn't strike me as being that funny. The jokes are fairly predictable, and it doesn't hold as much appeal as the Worst-Case Scenario book. I had thought I'd enjoy it as I've always been a big fan of Tierney's columns in the New York Times, but I wouldn't recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply a gem!, December 2, 2002

Who needs the glum old worst case survival handbook? Think positive! This refreshing book prepares us for the equally likely best case scenarios instead. Much more fun to conjure up these scenarios (winning the lottery, delivering a mistress' letter to your hated boss that you got by mistake) than preparing a defense against being eaten by an alligator. I choose fun over glum any day! Gotta go, I'm busy preparing for "How to survive on a desert island with J. Lo"!

This is the funniest book I have read in years. I laughed so hard my stomach hurt for days. I generally skip the appendix and sources chapters at the end of the book, but these are too funny to miss. I've purchased copies for all my friends!

I bought some of thse to give as door prizes at a work function. When they arrived, I looked them over and found them unsiutable (in this day of harrassment awareness) to give out at the office. Not obscene, just a little too naughty for this family-run business.

1.0 out of 5 stars Shoot me..., December 3, 2009
This review is from: The Best-Case Scenario Handbook: A Parody (Paperback)
I don't know what I was thinking. This book wants - really, really wants - to be clever, but when someone has nothing to say, has no real observation to make, it just comes across as empty. Why did the author base a book on another which was half-baked to begin with? And how can you make a successful parody of a book whose only saving grace was a chuckling undercurrent or irony. At least the original was subtle. I hope the poor dears don't decide to write a novel!
