HE CERTAINLY IS FIRST KITTY,
This review is from: The Best Cat (Hardcover)
Young readers don't have to be feline fanciers to enjoy this story about a family cat named Bootsy. It seems there's a divergence of opinion in the house regarding Bootsy's talents. Grandmother watches Bootsy playing with a ball of yarn and says, "Look at our Bootsy. She is a real clown." Young Jeff agreees that she's the best clown in the world. However, his older sinter, Ginny, says not so because Bootsy would fear the bright lights and loud applause. When Bootsy grabs one of father's slippers, he says, "Look at Bootsy now. She is a real football star." Again Jeff is in accord saying Bootsy is the best football star in the whole world. And again Ginny disagrees saying football is far too dangerous for their cat. It seems that Jeff and Ginny cannot agree on any talent Bootsy might have , save for one very important thing - Bootsy is the best cat in the world. Author/illustrator Gorbachev is quoted as saying that he loves cats and when he was a small boy he had a cat that he thought was the best in the world. Many of us might claim that title for our cat - I know we would. Fetching ink and watercolor illustrations bring all of Bootsy's attempts to life. Young readers may very well relate Jeff and Ginny's love for Bootsy to their affection for a family pet. THE BEST CAT is a warm, happy story sure to be enjoyed. - Gail Cooke

This review is from: The Best Cat (Hardcover)
"The Best Cat" is a tale of a brother and sister's love and esteem for their beloved cat, Bootsy, who is "the best cat" and the best at everything, according to her loyal family members. Colorfully illustrated by whimsical, feline-oriented fantasy montages, "The Best Cat" concludes that even though siblings may not agree about the occupations and specific talents of their beloved Bootsy, they agree that she is the best cat in the world. "The Best Cat" is ideal for children age 3 and up.
