Book Description

Coffee addict and bestselling self-published author CATHERINE RYAN HOWARD has been blogging about her adventures in self-publishing (or self-printing, as she likes to call it) on her popular blog, Catherine, Caffeinated, since November 2009. Now all of her caffeine-infused advice, information, tips and tricks —all 120,000 words of it—have been compiled in this e-book title. Learn everything Catherine did in the order she learned it, or use the category listings to navigate the posts by specific topic.

The ideal companion to any self-publishing/printing adventure, THE BEST OF CATHERINE,CAFFEINATED is best enjoyed with the highly caffeinated beverage of your choice.

A note to the potential reader: in case you were wondering, the cover—like Catherine's blog design—is pink and girly, but the advice inside is anything but.

5.0 out of 5 stars Generosity June 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am new to the world of indie publishing and only recently stumbled upon Catherine Howard's website while searching the Internet for advice on how to self-publish (for example, how, as a non-US citizen, to obtain that elusive US tax file number, I had much trepidation about that one!). I have been amazed to find so much support and generous advice - well written at that - from the virtual community of indie writers. And Catherine Howard's website is one of the best examples of this generosity. In the last few weeks I have spent some time dipping in and out of her blog posts and digesting her experienced advice in preparation for my own personal shift from traditional to self-publishing. Her writing is always engaging and there's energy and personality behind her words. And then, to top it all off, it's constructive and helpful!

I'm delighted to see she has now gathered together all of this generous advice into one ebook. I already know some of these posts, but a lot I do not. To get it all together like this as an ebook, and carefully categorised at that, is extremely helpful.

I am moved to immediately give 'The Best of Catherine, Caffeinated' five stars based on my expectations, and what I have read so far, and promise, when I've finished, I will return and confirm my review in an update. (Hopefully one can do that?)

Meanwhile, I recommend you grab this book for yourself, whether you want to self-publish or just gain some insights into this wild-and-woolly new world of indie publishing. I also recommend you seek out her website and subscribe.

... Back again. To confirm the sofa change price (as she puts it) is worth it. She delivers Hard earned knowledge about self-publishing written in an easy, feisty style. And informative in unexpected ways. I also now know how POD works.

Even the more technically-dated info can still offer valuable information.

The only thing I miss is the comments at the end of each post. Yes, I'm one of those who read them. So often, you find pearls. However, she has provided updates, where she feels the post's comments added something.

Terrific value for money. I got it for free, as a part of its promotional launch, which is why I'm paying back by making sure I give a well deserved review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable January 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Catherine Ryan Howard is like a mecca for all self-pub wannabies. We should all turn to Cork a couple of times a day and venerate. Her blog is always informative, and her tweets are fun and useful.
So no surprises that her book comes highly recommended. No one else that I know of has put together such a comprehensive how-to of getting one's own book published in such an entertaining fashion. The book is written in an informal, converstaional style, and the author's voice is very strong throughout. Normally, this would be a problem for me (I like my how-to books written like academic text-books - straight up info with no messing about) but this author's voice is so entertaining in of itself, it serves to make the sometimes painful experience of educating oneself in self-pubbing almost enjoyable.
I would go so far as to say, if you only read ONE self-pub book, make it this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank You Catherine! June 30, 2012
By Sharon
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I loved Catherine's first book on self-publishing - it's my go-to manual and I use it all the time - and her new book, The Best of Catherine Caffeinated, is absolutely wonderful as well.

Reading Catherine is like having a really nice sister who's a grade ahead of you and who tells you what to expect next year (e.g. her chapter, The Five Stages of Amazonitis), warns you away from not-so-obvious mistakes (Why is My Book Still 99 Cents?) and introduces you to her cool friends (like Nicola Morgan, the synopsis expert). She's wise and experienced.

She's also very funny. Some chapters were so hilarious that I laughed `til I cried, so much so that I couldn't see the pages through the tears. That's, like, good for your immune system!

So, I'm a big fan and highly recommend this book for anyone engaged in a self-publishing project.

More About the Author

CATHERINE RYAN HOWARD is a writer, blogger and coffee enthusiast from Cork, and one of Ireland's most successful self-published authors.

Catherine self-published her first book, a travel memoir called MOUSETRAPPED: A YEAR AND A BIT IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA in March 2010, after her book about Space Shuttle launches, humidity-challenged hair, Bruce Willis, the Ebola virus and an Irish girl working in Walt Disney World failed to find a publisher. Starting from scratch and using only social media, Catherine has managed to shift over 12,000 copies of MOUSETRAPPED to date, and gone on to release two other full-length books: BACKPACKED: A RELUCTANT TRIP ACROSS CENTRAL AMERICA and SELF-PRINTED: THE SANE PERSON'S GUIDE TO SELF-PUBLISHING.

She is also the author of MORE MOUSETRAPPED: A LITTLE BIT MORE FROM THAT YEAR AND A BIT and THE BEST OF CATHERINE, CAFFEINATED: CAFFEINE-INFUSED SELF-PUBLISHING ADVICE.

Her next book, TRAVELLED: 10 TALES ABOUT NOT STAYING AT HOME, is scheduled for release towards the end of 2012.

Her success story has been featured in the likes of the Irish Independent, Sunday Times and Irish Examiner newspapers, and Catherine has been interviewed on numerous radio shows including Arts Extra on BBC Radio Ulster and The Marian Finucane Show on RTE Radio 1. She also delivered Faber Academy's first ever self-publishing course at Faber & Faber, London, in February 2012 and continues to be a guest tutor there.

Before writing full-time, Catherine worked as an administrator in the Netherlands, a campsite courier in France and a front desk agent in a hotel in Walt Disney World, Florida. She dreams of becoming a NASA astronaut when she grows up. (She's 30.)

She currently divides her time between the desk and the sofa.
