4.0 out of 5 stars Seventies Pop
It was tough growing up as a kid in the seventies and loving bands like Charlie, Tarney-Spencer Band, Pablo Cruise, Sad Cafe, even Hall & Oates. It was tough growing up as a kid in the seventies and loving bands like Charlie, Tarney-Spencer Band, Pablo Cruise, Sad Cafe, even Hall & Oates. Too often, their lite-rock nature was derided by critics...remember, Zep and The Who ruled the roost back in '77. Charlie weren't a particularly amazing band. But they did know how to write catchy pop with bright edges, varied instrumental accompaniment and savvy hooks. This best of is a good starting point. It includes the band's better known material over the entire course of its career. Their best album, NO SECOND CHANCE is also available on Renaissance (it's a two-CD set with the band's next-best album, LINES). I've always compared them to Lindsey Buckingham's Fleetwood Mac-styled songs, especially on cuts like "Turning To You". Fans, of course, will bemoan the omission of some of their faves from the running order here. But for most of us who never heard of them and have a love for mid-seventies pop, this anthology is both recommended and welcome.

4.0 out of 5 stars Charlie' B.O., September 5, 2010

All fashioned (70's style). Sounds sometimes a little bit like Steely Dan, but more pop. Very good songs like Killer Cut and Johny hold back.

This album propelled them into the future, their sound was ahead of it time. Although they never really made the charts, this album is full of hits.
