5.0 out of 5 stars Sounds great ... I'll be buying more!
Was looking for an intro to Irish folk and it appears I picked the right group and CD with which to start!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as I expected
The Chieftains are known for their rowdy, spirited Celtic music. Most of the music on this CD was quieting, dirge-like and disappointing to the expectation of the "spirited" music I could pound my knees and legs, get up and dance with.....Too many other artists to enjoy just the Chieftains. I'm wondering who puts these 'favorites' together.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Originals, September 26, 2000

After having heard the Chieftain produced "Fire In the Kitchen" album, this CD was like taking a step back in time. It was the first true taste of traditional Irish music that I ever heard. No fancy computers to "beef up" the sound, just true Irish music played from the heart. The CD is well paced with a good mix of toe-tapping jigs and reels, and slower marches, but the emotion is always there. This CD is traditional, and it reminds us of the origins of the music that has made its impact on mainstream america, origins that should never be forgotten.

I love bagpipes ("gaitas" in Galicia, Spain) I first heard The Chieftains play with Carlos Nunez, and I was hooked.

I'm not generally a fan of this type of music, but after seeing and hearing the Chieftains on a popular soap opera, I fell in love with their music. This album is a wonderful collection of up-beat and entertaining music!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best, October 24, 1998

This is one of their best on par with chieftains 7, there is a good varity. Their pipe and drum beat put them above others. I keep this one and Chieftains 7 in my truck for those long comutes. I have seen them twice in concert and are as impressive in person.

5.0 out of 5 stars truly great musicians, May 11, 1998

the chieftains are truly great musicians. I recently saw them in concert and was amazed! I bought this cd after the concert. it's my first chieftains cd, but it won't be my last. I'm not a country and western fan, but if you are, this album is a must-have. the chieftain's music really illustrates how traditional irish music influenced country and western music in the U.S. if you're not a country fan, but like traditional sounds like violins/winds, you'll love this stuff.

Este album es realmente magnífico. La música es de una finura sublime y es una excelente forma de introducirse en la música tradicional irlandesa. Esta selección de temas sirve para demostrar por que los "Chieftains" son embajadores de su música en todo el mundo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Chieftains review, July 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Best of the Chieftains (Audio CD)
The best of the chieftains are a pretty good irish or celtic group and have played
here in the US often. The songs carry out ballads of the irish ancestory line and
the group is quite the irish singing funny type.
