This album is a re-recording of Chubby's hits., February 23, 1999
This review is from: Best of Chubby Checker (Audio CD)
If you're a true-blue fan of Chubby Checker, as I am, this will only mildly interest you. The musical arrangements are loose (the producer should be horse-whipped!). Chubby's fan club president just informed me that he has heard from the owner of Chubby's former record company, Cameo-Parkway Records (that would be the infamous Allen B. Klein of ABKCO Records, NYC) who has been swearing that he is preparing a huge compilation of "Greatest Hits" packages of all the original Cameo-Parkway hits, including Chubby's original hits. So far, nothing has been forthcoming for the two years since he made that comment!

Not The Real Stuff, November 30, 1998
This review is from: Best of Chubby Checker (Audio CD)
If you're looking for the original PARKWAY recordings, this is not it. These are re-makes of Chubby's hits recorded in the last few years by the original twister. They don't sound like the original's (at all). Wait till CAMEO PARKWAY releases them. Maybe soon!

The Best of Chubby Checker/ Madacy Records, October 9, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Best of Chubby Checker (Audio CD)
Here's another release in Madacy's "21 Winners" series. This one offers 20 hits by Chubby Checker. ("The Twist" is repeated at the end in a longer form as track no. 21 in order to quality the CD for inclusion in the "21" series.) They are stereo re-recordings which sound like the ones that he made for K-tel back in the late 70s. Since many of his early hits were only recorded in monaural, it's refreshing to hear them now in stereo. The sound is quite good, and Chubby sings with much enthusiasm. I get the impression that he was having a good time in the studio. Whereas other reissue labels have licensed 10 or 12 tracks for release, Madacy gives us all the hits for this collection. A worthwhile purchase.
