People in the Maryland/DC area, and those around the world lucky enough to get into the area's "best kept secret" have long known who and what Chuck Brown is... and his influence on not only an entire genre of music, but countless other artists who've followed in his footsteps - - knowingly and unknowingly. And now, finally a retrospective that covers his entire career, from his ultra funky "Kool and The Gang"ish disco/hard core funk roots in the mid-70s (when as far as the rest of the world is concerned he had his "one hit wonder" Bustin' Loose even though the best was yet to come) - - all the way up to current times, where as "The Godfather of Go Go" he comfortably holds court, guitar in hand - - and even rappin' and out rappin' fans and follows barely a third of his age - - often backed by the P-Funk horns, and a who's who of Jazz, funk, go go players... the truth is Chuck Brown is a style, genre and persona all unto himself - - "good people" yet "wickedly funky"...

Though DC's go go music (which Chuck Brown created) never caught on like it should have, the truth is that if you listen to this CD and don't come out convinced that Chuck Brown epitomized the words "legend", "style" and "funkyness" -- you ain't nothing...

As an added bonus, to fans of Chuck's more "musical elements", this CD is proabably his most consistantly engineered and best packaged representation to date... you really get to hear his various bands over the years work out, and have to be amazed how he's always at the helm gushing with his distinct trademarks - - the non-stop beats, those slick and funky guitar lines, the ever popping bass and congas and his funky emcee-ing and stage bands that are always funner than fun and tighter than tight.

Though Chuck can and does travel the year, it is true that he's under-appreciated... and its ashame because I truly believe that if everyone in the world knew more about him music worldwide would be 100 times as good !

..the Godfather of Go-Go!!! My husband bought this for me for my birthday (been a big fan of Chuck since high school). This is a wonderful walk down memory lane with some of the original classics and some new ones added for extra flava. No one does it like Chuck.
This CD stays in constant rotation in my car...it's often needed on those long rides home and especially in the summertime with the sunroof open blasting Go-Go Swing, Day-o, We Need Some Money and my new favorite - Misty!!!

Funky! Rocking! Crankin! Yeah shawty! This is one CD to have during rush hour traffic . . . all my DC Metro people understand . . . South Capitol Street Bridge, Woodrow Wilson Bride, Route 50 New York Avenue . . . Rockin! Especially the gospel joint . . . Can't nobody do me like Jesus!!! Buy 5 copies man! Don't burn this one. i hate the fact that i don't live in washington dc anymore and can't go see chuck brown play tonight at the warner theatre. one of my best memories of seeing chuck brown play live is on the Mall for the Folklife Festival. it's really time for people to give props to the GODFATHER of GO GO. yeah we had nelly last year and amerie this year but there has to be more go go on the radio nationwide. two cd's for 15.00 bucks you can't beat that. amazon send my copy right now. i feel like bustin loose back to dc. thanks chuck for all you've done

The king of Go-Go music places his stamp on R&B, funk, reggae, cover tunes and even gospel, from the 70's till now, on this 16-track, 2-disc set of nothing short of a good time. For all ages. Just a feel good party time capsule.

Skeptical, usually THE BEST OF... CD with the artist recording on multiple labels, you just might not get the original hits as heard back in the day, well "Bustin' Loose" and "We Need Some Money" will not disappoint you at all. Turn it up. Never would have thought to hear Barry White's "Playing Your Game, Baby" in a go-go stylee. Sounding so smooth, you would think Barry did the vocals himself. Even cartoons get a go-go at it with "Woody Woodpecker", R. Kelly's "Fiesta" to goin' to church with ya on "Can't Nobody Do Me Like Jesus", Chuck Brown is spreading his positive vibe on anybody and everybody, but he doesn't get you to listen, once you feel his vibe you have no choice but to listen.

The Godfather of go-go has many sons and daughter followers contributed to go-go. Trouble Funk, E.U., Mass Extension, The Junkyard Band, Salt-N-Pepa and many more. A new style of funk/R&B originated by a multi-talented pioneer. Totally ahead of his time.

Chuck Brown is the Go Go Godfather. Everybody knows that. But, this set went back to the beginning. 'We The People' and 'Blow Your Whistle' these were big on the Philly dance scene back in the day. Nobody knew it was a DC thang. Go Chuck! And just to prove he ain't done yet, he just came out with 'Block Party' Should be another monster hit.

This compilation of Chuck Brown's greatest hits is awesome. Having grown up in Washington, DC and listening to Chuck growing up, it was very refreshing to hear the old songs and old songs never released before. Remember when you put Chuck Brown on you just can't stop moving, that driving Go-Go beat is unique and devestating. I highly recommend this CD and another of his called "Any Other Way to Go." Just awesome!!!!

Chuck Brown started the best kept muscial secret in America. It is only fitting that this collection is nothing but live songs which shows Chuck (well over 70) still tearing it up. The music of DC needs to be spread and this is a great album to do it!

"I feel like Bustin' loose!"

I am a Chuck Brown Fan and have been one for years. I was not happy with the older songs that were included on thi sparticular album. I thought that there could have been other songs, from other venues, that could have been included on this particular CD. I still enjoy his music and am happy with the purchase.

This CD brings the best songs together. It takes me down memory lane!! I agree with K. Ham, DO NOT BURN THIS CD! This is certainly a CD to add to your collection! Let's support the godfather of go-go!
