Early NYC soul,

This review is from: The Best Of Chuck Jackson (Audio CD)
New York based urban soul artist Chuck Jackson recorded for the WAND label from 1961 to '67. Previously, Jackson was part of the Del-Vikings doo wop group. Along with Dionne Warwick, he was one of the first to record Bert Bacharach songs.
Jackson enjoyed moderate success throughout his career-- in fact, the first three tracks on COLLECTABLES' THE BEST OF CHUCK JACKSON were his only top-selling singles; the rest, while competent, can hardly be classified as smash hits. Also here are Chuck's two charting 'A' side duets with Maxine Brown, "Something You Got" and "Hold On, I'm Comin'." The majority of this CD's 25 tracks, listed as their original singles: WAND #106 (1961) I Don't Want To Cry b/w Just Once WAND #108 (1961) (It Never Happens) In Real Life b/w The Same Old Story WAND #110 (1961) I Wake Up Crying (harmony vocals: Dionne and Dee Dee Warwick) WAND #115 (1962) The Breaking Point WAND #119 (1962) Whatcha Gonna Say Tomorrow WAND #122 (1962) Any Day Now (My Wild Beautiful Bird) WAND #126 (1962) I Keep Forgettin' WAND #128 (1963) Gettin' Ready For the Heartbreak WAND #132 (1963) Tell Him I'm Not Home WAND #138 (1963) Tears of Joy* WAND #141 (1963) Any Other Way WAND #154 (1964) Beg Me (backing vocals: Cissy Houston) WAND #169 (1964) Since I Don't Have You WAND #181 (1965) Something You Got (w/Maxine Brown) WAND #1148 (1967) Hold On I'm Coming (w/Maxine Brown) WAND #1166 (1967) Shame On Me b/w Candy *('B' side of "I Will Never Turn My Back On You") The remainder are album cuts: (1962) Make the Night a Little Longer (1965) I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself (1963) Don't Believe Him Donna (1965) Human (1963) Blue Holiday (????) Where Do I Go From Here? For another sampling of the Sceptor/Wand/Musicor catalog, check out COLLECTABLES' 19 track THE BEST OF THE ISLEY BROTHERS compilation.
