I love this album. Not only do I adore the cover shot by John Kelly [hmmmm, wonder where Madonna got the idea to do the cow-girl look??] but this collection by the original 'pop princess' really gives you a great retrospective of class Cilla.

My favourites would have to be some of the new tracks to CD which include the adorable "It's now" and "He was a writer". It's understandable why they are so popular with Cilla's fans.

Whether it's the bold voice, or just that good old british charm, I can't for the life of me figure out why Cilla Black never made a bigger splash here in the US. I'd heard the name mentioned numerous times whenever any music reviewer where speaking of either Petula Clark, or Dusty Springfield, or doing a comparison with the new british neo-soul sirens who've become quite popular in recent (and I'm a fan of theirs as well); but I never ventured on any further when hearing, or reading, Cilla's name. Finally, I found this compilation, it was brand new at a very reasonable price, and truly a fantastic find indeed. It's filled with all of Cilla's notable early hits from the UK (most notably, "You're My World", "Anyone Who Had A Heart", and "Alfie", just to name a few). It's easy to understand just why she was so popular; very strong, soulful voice, and a great performer. If you've never either heard of Cilla, or if you have but never experienced her music, and if you're the slightest bit curious, I'd have to strongly urge you to acquire this collection. I feel she's truly legendary, and the US has sadly overlooked one of the most wonderful singers from across "the pond".
