OH CISCO, OH PANCHO! LET'S WENT.,
By
This review is from: Best of The Cisco Kid (35 Episodes) (DVD)
This set of 3 discs offers 35 episodes of The Cisco Kid at a more than affordable price. Whether these particular episodes represent the "best" of the show is beside the point, who cares, what really matters is for a very low price lovers of this series get 35 episodes, mostly in color. I have a couple other Mill Creek sets (Robin Hood and 20 John Wayne features) and for the price these folks issue very good products. Granted they are not always the best in quality, but then the low price off sets that for me. As a kid in the 1950s I watched this series whenever possible, now thanks to Mill Creek I can re-watch these 35 episodes whenever I wish. I enjoy watching westerns, and I read on the west too, both fiction and non-fiction, and it is comforting to see two actors at the end of their long, respective careers in what for me is one of the best westerns series ever aired on TV. Semper Fi.

Oh, Cisco!,

This review is from: Best of The Cisco Kid (35 Episodes) (DVD)
The 35 episodes in BEST OF THE CISCO KID are from the show's first two seasons. Look here for both TV Lois Lanes from "The Adventures of Superman," early western serial specialist Kermit Maynard, Gail Davis (star of TV's "Annie Oakley") and character actor Denver Pyle.
THE CISCO KID was the first TV series filmed in color, although it wasn't broadcast that way until years after its demise. The Kid was loosely based on a 1907 O. Henry short story (he wrote "The Gift of the Magi"). From his earliest screen appearance in 1919, The Cisco Kid underwent some changes over the years. O. Henry's Kid was non-Hispanic and one mean hombre. By the time the movie series began in 1939, the character was portrayed by Cesar Romero, had become a good guy and had a sidekick named 'Gordito.' Romero made several Cisco Kid films until 1942. The dormant series was revived three years later, with Duncan Renaldo in the lead. The Gordito character was replaced by Pancho Gonzales, played by Martin Garralaga, who stayed in the role until 1948, when Leo Carillo took over. In 1950, Renaldo and Carillo made the jump to television. The Cisco Kid aired for six seasons and 156 episodes, from September 1950 to March of '56. Fans of vintage television westerns are certain to enjoy WESTERN TV CLASSICS. This one features 20 different programs, with a total 150 episodes! . Program list includes episode number, title, season, original airdate and guest stars. Best Deal on Cisco Kid TV,
By
This review is from: Best of The Cisco Kid (35 Episodes) (DVD)
The quality seems to be about the same regardless of price on these vintage 'Cisco Kid' TV DVD sets, so go with the best price, and most episodes for your $$. The quality varies from acceptable to pretty good. The color is faded, and fuzzy on several of these old shows. The sound is quite good overall. They are watchable and the nostalgia factor is very high. If you're old enough to have seen these originally, you'll feel like you went back to your childhood in the early 1950's. These are said to be from the 1st two years of the long running show [ ie. 1950 - 51]. Seemingly endless entertainment for a paltry price, my 9 yr. old grand daughter likes the mix of humor & adventure. Get this particular set while you can.

When you heard those lines, you knew the show was over. I watched this series when I was around 4 or 5 years old and didn't really recall any of the episodes from then. I do remember that I liked the show as it was always exciting and the good guys came out on top and the bad guys bit the dust.
This 3-DVD set is priced around $7.50 and if nothing else is an outstanding value. This set is titled " The Best Of The Cisco Kid" and includes 35 episodes filmed in color (supposedly the first series to be filmed in color when there were only black and white televisions) which is somewhat faded at times but fully watchable. The plots of the series varied, of course, but basically Cisco and Pancho were always becoming involved to help the good and thwart the sinister doings of the bad guys. Even now, when I watch these shows they are interesting and have halfway believable story lines. Of course a lot of ammo is used and considerable fighting is necessary to defeat the evildoers and to exonerate the wrongfully accused or framed individuals. There is also comedy, mostly originating from Pancho due to the situations he becomes involved in. And if that isn't enough, you can watch Diablo (Cisco's horse) to see how many times his markings change in an episode. There must have been 5 or 6 Diablos used at different times, possibly to spell a tired mount after several takes of a scene. My recommendation is to spring for the meager price of this set, and after watching I believe you'll enjoy it as much as I did.

These are just good fun and entertaining. Not up to today's standards for scenes and tricks, but lots of fun to watch and a great reminder of the days when high tech was not the solution and good guys were noble, honest and humble.

All episodes in color, but the quality is about a 7 on a scale of 10; the real problem is my equipment can not track/playback with out stops and starts. I have tried differnet disks and they all playback with jerks and moments of still picture and no sound. I am disappointed with this set. Other products from this distributor have not had this problem.

Great Western TV Series,

This review is from: Best of The Cisco Kid (35 Episodes) (DVD)
If you like the Lone Ranger or Gene Autry, you'll like the Cisco Kid. It was very much a carbon copy of the genre (flashy itinerant hero with sidekick). As a child I loved the Cisco Kid. It is great to watch these programs again. One word of caution is about the color. Cisco Kid was revolutionary in its early use of color, but the down side is that because of the age of the original film, the color has deteriorated to a point where it is not much different from black and white.

These video's are probably the best quality that I have seen of the Cisco Kid. The fact remains that the original masters are in need of restoration. I hope that someone will issue the whole series remastered one day.
